LIBRARY NEWS

Welcome to another week in the library. It’s been busy with lots of wonderful books read and games played. It’s a great place to be!
Reading Round-Up
Kindergarten has continued exploring stories about friendship while learning about the important roles of an author and an illustrator. They enjoyed two Noni the Pony stories by Alison Lester, and will read two delightful Snail and Turtle books by Stephen Michael King this week. They are making a fantastic start to borrowing and are becoming increasingly confident with library routines.
Stage 1 has been laughing their way through more stories by Pamela Allen, especially the much-loved Mr McGee books — the flea incident was a clear favourite! This week, they are exploring onomatopoeia (sound words) through Bertie and the Bear, and producing some fantastic library work.
In Stage 2, we’ve travelled the world with Mr Chicken, visiting Rome and Paris in the hilarious books by Leigh Hobbs. Students were equally shocked and fascinated learning about the Colosseum and its gladiators, and this week we’re heading up the Eiffel Tower. They’ve also loved learning how to draw Mr Chicken!
Meanwhile, Stage 3 has been strengthening key visual literacy skills, exploring how colour influences mood and how to identify the salient point (the focus) in an image. We’ve used the wordless story Journey by Aaron Becker and Suri's Wall by Lucy Estela to help us uncover these important visual storytelling techniques.
Premier’s Reading Challenge is a Go!
The PRC officially began last Monday, 23 February, and it’s wonderful to see students across the school already busy enjoying their reading! Thank you to the many families who have returned permission notes — passwords for student log books will be sent home this week. Please note that Kindergarten students complete the Challenge at school using books read in their classroom and during their library lesson. Booklists and full Challenge rules are available on the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge website. We look forward to a fantastic year of reading and encourage every student to keep turning those pages!
Term 1 Book Club
The Term 1 Scholastic Book Club catalogue will be coming home with students this week. Book Club is an optional program, and there is absolutely no obligation to purchase.
In addition to your child receiving great books, our school library receives a credit for every order placed to purchase new books for everyone to enjoy. We encourage families to use Scholastic’s LOOP online ordering system, which is simple to use and currently includes a free book promotion with this catalogue for orders placed through LOOP. For more information and LOOP instructions, please visit Scholastic Book Club online or contact me at school. The closing date for orders will be 9 am WEDNESDAY, 11th of March, 2026.
SORA E-books of the Week
Our SORA eBooks of the Week are back, and this week’s fun theme is Bookflix — stories so good they feel binge-worthy! All students at HTS have access to the Australian Catholic Education Network digital library and can log in using their school email and password (available from their classroom teacher). For instructions on accessing SORA, please click here. When logging in, please note that you are not searching for Holy Trinity School, but for ACEN — the Australian Catholic Education Network library. Happy reading!
Thank You!
A huge thank you to the Inverell Community Sewing for Charity Group for their generous donation of fabric library bags, and sensory mats. We are so grateful for your ongoing support. We also love the beautiful pocket hearts you created to celebrate kindness — thank you for making such a meaningful difference in our school community!
New Books Alert
New books are flying off the shelves! No sooner had I displayed our new secondary sports autobiographies and romance titles than they were snapped up. Flynn and Beau couldn’t wait to start their new footy reads; perfect timing with the start of the NRL season this weekend. Demi was excited to be the first borrower of a book she requested earlier this term, and Willow also found the perfect new read for DEAR time. Did you know we have a student request book in the library? We love hearing what our students want to read next!
Meet the Readers
Meet Peyton and Alexander, who couldn’t wait to borrow their new books. Can you guess what Alexander’s favourite thing is?
Happy reading,
Mrs Toni Fraser
