Prep: Students have been learning about ‘tempo’ in class. They have played percussion instruments soft, loud, slow and fast and now know the following Italian words used in music – piano, forte, largo and presto.

Year 1: Students have been learning the dance to go with “Kwa Heri”. They have also been reading and playing rhythm patterns that include minims, worth 2 beats of sound.
Year 2: Students have been singing and dancing to the song “Everything is Awesome” from the Lego Movie. They have also created and shared a rhythm composition based on Lego block sizes using their choice of percussion instrument.

Grade 3/4: Students have had a go at a body percussion pattern by themselves, with a partner and in a group of four as an extra challenge! They have also been working indiviually or with a parnter to create rhyming lines to go with existing rap lyrics about times of the day.
Grade 5/6: Students have selected, created and shared with their class a popular song chorus they have transformed into a parody.

The weeks are going fast as we build our art collection for the up coming Art Show in term four. We have created so many beautiful textured art pieces over the last few weeks using wool and various weaving techniques!
Grade Prep
Last week we learnt about texture and created a painted wrinkled effect. This week we followed our first guided drawing task, and the students did a magnificent job! We created a basic seagull sketch and even though we all followed the same instructions, each seagull has a unique edge. The seagulls were then mounted onto our wrinkled paper we made last week and they look amazing. Well done Preps! Next week we will continue looking at texture and we will create some texture rubbings using crayon.

Grade 1
Over the last few lessons we have been working on our painted yarn art pieces that are full of textured wools in various colours. This week we finished these off and are looking at our new art piece focus. We will experiment with water colour and patterns to create a sample swatch that we will be using in our upcoming art sessions. Stay tuned!

Grade 2
This week we chipped away at our painted yarn pieces inspired by places we find in Australia. The students have put a lot of time and effort into these and have shown lots of fine motor skills with the whole gluing process. Hopefully we will finish these off next week and then the Grade 2’s will also be moving onto making a sample swatch ready to use in an upcoming art piece.

Grade 3/4
This week the students have been putting the finishing touches onto their circle weaving loom they created last week, showcasing texture using wool. Our next art piece will be to create a very simple postcard of an Australian destination using black crayon and watercolours.

Grade 5/6
This week the students are finishing off their rectangular loom weaving where they have shown so patience and built-up new skills. The 5/6’s will also be moving onto designing a postcard of an Australian Destination.

Art Club
Art club is available to different year levels each term. The schedule for 2026 will be as follows:
Term 1 | Term 2 | Term 3 | Term 4 |
5x7 Hobson’s Bay Art Competition | Grade 3/4’s – Preparation for this year’s Art Show | Grade 1/2 - Preparation for this year’s Art Show | Grade Preps - Preparation for this year’s Art Show |
This term the 5/6’s are working on their submissions to the Hobson’s Bay 5x7 Art Competition. Our theme is ‘Nostalgia’. The students have been having fun interpreting this theme and putting their own spin on the piece they are creating. Great work everyone!

Art smocks
Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.
We are looking for…..
To help with the creative process, we are asking for some materials that you may no longer need and would be happy to donate to the art room where we will turn them into magnificent art pieces. Some things we are looking for are wool, old house paint brushes, newspapers, shoe boxes (in good condition) and empty 1.5litre fizzy drink bottles (washed). So, if you are doing a clean out and have these items can you please drop them off at the Art Room. Thanks so much for your support!

Warm regards,
Marcia Evans
Over the past fortnight, students have continued developing fundamental movement skills across all year levels. Our junior classes are strengthening core coordination and control, while our senior students remain focused on athletics skill development.
What Students Are Learning
Prep: Students are continuing to build safe movement habits, focusing on balance, spatial awareness and controlled changes of direction in shared spaces.
Year 1: Students are developing fundamental movement skills through games that build coordination, reaction time and body control. A strong emphasis remains on moving safely and confidently in shared spaces.
Year 2: Students are refining object control and locomotor skills, working on timing, balance and controlled movement patterns through structured skill-based activities.
Years 3/4: Students are developing endurance and pacing as part of our athletics unit. There has been noticeable improvement in rhythm, consistency and the ability to maintain effort over longer distances.
Years 5/6: Senior students are continuing to refine middle-distance running, concentrating on breathing control, maintaining form under fatigue and making strategic pacing decisions.
Sport Update
This week, 15 students will represent Williamstown Primary School at the Division Swimming Carnival. We wish them the very best of luck as they compete against strong schools from across the Division. Reaching Division level is a significant achievement and reflects the commitment, preparation and resilience these students have demonstrated throughout the swimming season. We are extremely proud of the way they have represented the school so far and look forward to celebrating their efforts.
Warm regards,
Paddy Gallivan
