It has been a big week in Prep with the students completing their first full week of school. We are sure there will be many tired children this weekend. We hope those of you who were able to attend the Prep BBQ had a wonderful time connecting with each other and sharing tales of the first month of Prep!
Wellbeing Incursion
Our Preps experienced their first incursion this week. Rosie came by to teach the students different ways that we can take care of our minds and bodies. The students practised deep belly breathing, a range of yoga poses and different meditation techniques. All of the students were really engaged and gave everything a go. Hopefully the Preps can use some of these techniques to help them calm down next time they are experiencing big emotions.

Here are some photos from the last two weeks.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 6-7
Reading - Students will learn about appropriate reading behaviours, for example direction of print and caring for books. They will also discuss book features such as the front cover, pictures and text. As part of our Little Learner’s program, students begin the year learning single letter sounds, with our current focus being the /t/ and /p/ sounds. To help us remember these sounds, we have met Tim the turtle and Peter the penguin. There are songs about these characters available online, which you may like to listen to with your child at home or in the car:
Writing- Students are learning to write their name, correctly form letters, trace over a modelled piece of writing and copy it underneath. This week we are focusing on forming the letter ‘t’.
Numeracy- Students are learning to graph information about themselves, their classmates and their school. We are learning a range of maths games which they can play with a partner and help them practise their number recognition and ordering. They are also finding different ways to represent a number by starting our count to 100 Days of School.
Inquiry - Students are investigating how Willy Kids can be successful and engaged learners. Our Willy Kids foci across weeks 6 and 7 are being sociable and showing consideration.
Willy Kids - Our Willy Kid topic for this fortnight is ‘Willy Kids are Problem Solvers’. The Willy Kid topic for the next fortnight is ‘Willy Kids have a Growth Mindset’.
Respectful Relationships - This term our Respectful Relationships topic is Emotional Literacy. The aim of this topic is to assist students to recognise and identify their own emotions, and describe situations that may evoke these emotions.
Homework - Each Monday, students will be given an activity to complete at home that relates to our weekly sound focus. The activity in their ‘Home Learning Book’ will be collected each Friday. Homework in Prep should take no longer than 15 minutes.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards,
The Prep Team–Caitlin Sullivan (Prep S), Claire Davies (Prep D) & Georgia Grainger (Prep G)
