We are so excited to share that the Stand Up Project has officially launched for its second year at our school!
The Stand Up Project is a powerful program that empowers students to lead the way in reducing bullying, harassment, and discrimination. At its heart is a simple but important idea about being an upstander: someone who chooses to speak up and take action when they see something isn't right. Students discover that even small actions can make a big difference, and that standing up for others helps create a school where everyone feels safe and valued.
What do students learn?
Through the program, students explore the bystander effect, the causes and impacts of unkind behaviour, and the most effective ways to support those who need it. The real magic? Students then teach what they've learned to younger students, their teachers, and their families.
Meet our Stand Up Leaders!
On 19 February, our Year 5/6 students were treated to an inspiring session with Zach Greig, the founder and director of the Stand Up Project. He had our Willy Kids buzzing with energy and enthusiasm! An incredible 90+ students put their hands up to be Stand Up Leaders; a testament to the kind of community our students want to be part of. After a thoughtful selection process, 27 students are now official Stand Up Leaders, joined by 3 returning mentors from 2025 who are already sharing their experience and wisdom with the new group.
Presenting with pride
This week, our Stand Up Leaders presented to staff on Tuesday afternoon and to families on Wednesday evening. They were absolutely outstanding; speaking from the heart and representing themselves, and our school, beautifully. The program is truly in excellent hands.
For the rest of this term, our leaders will be busy planning lessons to deliver to Year 2–4 students next term. They also have plenty of exciting ideas to keep our school a safe, caring, and kind place for everyone.
Below is a useful graphic for parents that was shared at the Parent Information evening.
