WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY - PARLIAMENT HOUSE. MORE THAN JUST POLITICS!
Expressions of interest for work experience placements in terms 3 & 4, 2024 are now open!
Whether you’re interested in politics, planting trees, law-making or baking, your work experience placement at the Parliament of Victoria will be an experience you’ll remember. This is a unique opportunity to undertake a week-long placement in either the Parliamentary Sitting or Parliamentary Services program. Placements run for 5 days: Monday-Friday, from 9am until 5pm each day.
Parliamentary Sitting placements provide the opportunity to see the law-making process up close. Students will go behind the scenes with the staff who directly support Parliament sittings, to get a deeper understanding of our democratic processes.
Parliamentary Services placements offer a variety of opportunities that can be matched with a broad range of student interests and career goals. Students will have the option to work with staff in one of the many professional service areas that support the day-to-day business of Parliament.

Expressions of interest for terms 3 & 4 will close at 5:00pm on Friday 5 July 2024. Interested students will be notified of the outcome of their submission no later than Friday 26 July.
WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY - MEDICINE
SAHMRI Work Experience Program
SAHMRI offers a selective work experience program to introduce secondary school students to some of the many career options available in the medical research field.
The program aims to give students a practical understanding of careers in medical research and equip them with the knowledge to make more informed decisions around their future careers.
Over a five-day program, students will be exposed to a range of activities across our research Themes. You will have the opportunity to learn from world-class researchers and discover what they do at SAHMRI. Students are expected to attend the entire program, approximately 9:30am-4:00pm each day, so please ensure you are available for the full duration of the program before applying.
Throughout the program, you will be exposed to a range of activities across our research themes. You will have the opportunity to learn from world-class researchers and get hands-on experience in our laboratories. On your last day, you will deliver a short presentation reflecting on your experience.
Program One: Monday, 1st July - Friday, 5th July 2024
Program One Applications Close: 11:29pm ACST, Wednesday 15th May 2024.
Students will be notified by Wednesday 29th May 2024.
Program Two: Monday, 23rd September - Friday, 27th September 2024
Program Two Applications Close: 11:29pm ACST, Wednesday 31st July 2024 2024.
Students will be notified by Wednesday 14th August 2024.
Selection Criteria
When submitting your application, you will be asked to include a short cover letter detailing why you are interested in participating in the work experience program and what you are hoping to gain from the experience. There is no single type of application that will succeed - we want to hear why the program is interesting to you.
Students from Australian secondary schools who are currently undertaking Year 11 or Year 12 are eligible to apply. Year 10 students can also apply however due to the complexity of the content covered in the program Year 11 and 12 students will generally be given preference.
