ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land, the Wurundjeri, Woi Wurrung and Boonwurrung Peoples of the Kulin Nation and pay our respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging. Aboriginal people have a deep and continuous connection to the place now called Victoria. Aboriginal people have lived in the Maribyrnong River valley for over 40,000 years.

Welcome to week four of term two.

The past fortnight we have had Hooptime Basketball occurring, Welcome Wembley Club starting before school in the wellbeing end of the BER, Breakfast Club in full swing, the Western Bulldogs visit Wembley PS, district cross country occurring, ANZAC Day assembly, significant progress in the Capital Works Building Project, our First Junior School Councill meeting of 2024, and Ginny and River, our wellbeing dogs, supporting student learning and wellbeing across the school.

Happy Easter

We wish all Wembley PS community members who observe Orthodox Easter, a very Happy Easter for last weekend.

Happy Mother’s/Special Person’s Day

Wishing the mothers and mother figures in our Wembley PS community a very happy Mothers day on Sunday 12 May. We hope that it's enjoyed with cuddles, breakfast in bed, hand made cards, and special gifts purchased from the mother's day stall.

We also understand that this day can be difficult for a number of reasons and we are sending our love to community members who may be experiencing loss, longing and hardship at this time.

Mothers Day Stall

Our wonderful Wembley Parent Association volunteers (WPA) have organised a gift stall to be held at school this Friday 10 May. The stall is a great opportunity for children to purchase a small Mothers Day gift for the special person in their lives. The gifts range from $1.00 to $8.00, so please remind your child/ren to bring along their coins to purchase something special for their mummies and/or special people in their lives.

Education Week Open Morning - Friday 17 May 9:00-10:00am

Monday 13 May marks the beginning of Education Week 2024, in Victorian schools.

The theme this year is 'Spotlight on STEM', which highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in our everyday lives, in the classroom and beyond.

The purpose of Education Week is to celebrate and showcase the great work happening across the state in our primary schools. At Wembley PS, we will be celebrating Education Week in Week 5 (Monday 13 May - Friday 17 May).

We will be hosting an open morning for families to visit classrooms and Specialist programs in session one (9:00-10:00am) on Friday 17 May.

Parents, guardians and special people (grandparents) are welcome to attend! Students in classrooms will be celebrating and sharing their learning with you.

You do not need to RSVP, you can simply come along on the day!

Across the week, students will engage in a range of lessons and share ideas to learn more about the endless possibilities of STEM.

I'd like to thank our teachers, and the staff members on our Whole School Events Committee who have planned this event for our community.

We look forward to welcoming our community into our classrooms to celebrate Education week.

Capital Building Works Project

Great progress has been made with our capital building works project and we are tracking well to move into the new building in Term Three.

We are now ordering furniture, and preparing to decant our year four classes, Rachel's class (5A) in the centre of the BER, the specialist team, and the office, by the end of term four.

Please note that the contractors have made provisions for another access point to the building project, via Hawkhurst Street. This will impact a small stretch of the no standing zone for the reminder of the year. After which, the fencing and parking area will be reinstated.

In the photo's below you will see the capital works project team.

2024 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Wednesday 8 May 2024 at 5.30pm in the staffroom

The time has come for WPA's annual AGM to kick off its activities for the year!

Why should you come along?

1) You'll learn how you're able to support a group that aims to strengthen the partnership between parents/carers, and the school.

2) You'll be able to join in discussions about school policy issues that matter to you and your kids.

3) You can share new ideas for social events, guest speakers, community days, and other ways to engage.

4) You can learn more about how you can get involved. Once you know more, we'd also love you to put your hand up and be one of the office bearers for the year (nominations can be received during the AGM if you're keen to hear more first - or if not, feel free to nominate beforehand!).

It's a fantastic way to meet new people and contribute to the school community, so we'd love to see as many parents and carers there as possible.

If you would like to vote at the meeting and you're not already a member, please fill in the member form and bring it to the meeting or email to wembleyparents@gmail.com. You can find the member form on the Wembley Primary School website by following this link https://www.wembleyps.vic.edu.au/page/293.
