The Art Room

Term 2

Did you know that preparations for our Festival have already begun?

Keep the date of Saturday 23 November free for an Art extravaganza never seen before here at Mullum. Grade 5 and 6 students have been busy transforming items donated to the Art Room into Artworks that will floor you! We will be auctioning off these beautiful Artworks to raise funds for our school. Some of the items include a tiny writing desk, a sweet little chest of drawers, a hatbox and a jewellery box. We have some talented voices who are keen to play auctioneer on the day, so be prepared to vie against a few keen families to bid for that coveted piece.

Yayoi Kusama Flowers

Grade 3 and 4 students are working on the cutest flower arrangements inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. You may remember a couple of years ago we studied Kusama’s pumpkins. We return to our investigation in time for her exhibition coming to Australia this summer.

Mushrooms!

There was so much Mushroom action in the art room with Grade 2 this week, you may have been confused and thought there was an outbreak! Autumn is the time for mushrooms and when our little hands are learning how to manipulate and sculpt, they are the perfect model for us to copy. Take a look at these cuties! We look forward to painting them next week.

STE"EA"M

Tuesday evening at Mullum was a-buzz with students and their families visiting each of the classrooms, Science Room and Art Room to celebrate STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Environment, Art and Maths.  Most black texta colours, you would think, are pretty similar. Right? Well, we proved that theory wrong when we were able to separate the pigments in four types of black texta. Drops of water added to the black revealed an array of colours including turquoise, blue, pink and purple. Take a look at our experiments; they could be artworks themselves!
