Como House Visit
Grade 1 & 2
Last week our Grade 1 and Grade 2 students headed off to Como House for a look at life in the 'olden days'. Check out these great photos and the wonderful writing that came from the experience:
Check out the terrific writing:
On Monday morning grade 2R travelled by bus to Como House. We got a tour of the mansion and learnt a lot of history about the Armytage family who lived in the house. Maisie told us how the servants had to do all the family laundry and they had ten children. We got to wash some of the clothes in a bucket and squeeze the water out with a mangle. It was fun. Maisie set up a treasure hunt in the garden around the mansion. It was to find out who smashed a doll. On the way back to school, I had a quick nap on the bus. It was the best day ever. Ernie.
One exquisite Monday morning, we hopped on the bus to Como House, which is in the city. It was fun. We went in a mansion. It was very big and had a lot of rooms. A veranda went all around the front. The servants had to wash all the family’s clothes. I even got to do some washing too. On the grass, we played olden day games like croquet. After that, we did a hunt in the garden for clues to see who broke the glass doll. It was nice weather and a great excursion. Tyler
After the weekend grade 2R went to Como House. We went on a treasure hunt. It was called the ‘Broken Doll.’ There were clues everywhere around the garden and we had to follow a map. We played olden day games, like ‘Hot Potato,’ on the grass. We danced in the mansion ballroom. We had to make a circle, then clap, do a curtsy if you were a girl and the boys had to pretend to take off their hat. The boys also had to let the ladies go through the door first! We also saw that the people only had a mini bathroom and had to keep the toilet pot under the bed. The servants put down rugs on the veranda for us to eat our lunch. We saw lots of interesting things at Como House. Mila
Hooray! The grade ones and twos were going to Como House. First, we went on the bus into the city. When we got there, I was amazed. The family who owned the house were called Armytage. They had a lot of old-fashioned things to look at. We got to wash their clothes and dance in their ballroom. It was really big. After that, we had to use the clues from the garden to find out who smashed the doll. Elsa
On Monday 2R went to Como House. The best thing is I went inside Como House. My favourite thing I did was washing the clothes. My favourite room was the bedroom.
I played some olden day games. Some of the trees in the garden were very old. Julia
It was a wonderful day. We went to Como House. We went on a tour. The house was really big and old. The Armytage family had servants who cooked food and washed the clothes too. It was good. We had lunch then we went to play games. We came back to school on the bus and had a little play before we went home. Maddi
We were going to Como House. First, we had a house tour. Second, we cleaned clothes like this; we put the clothes in the soapy water, then we put the clothes through the ringer. Charlie
