Selamat Siang,

Focused on the conductor!

This week in Performing Arts the Foundation students have explored movement, song and beat. They had fun with this song about "There was a Crocodile" and also thinking about bedtime routines and the role of a lullaby as they listened to the "Llama Lullaby" song too and coloured in their own llama to remind them of the song.

Grade 1/2's have been "Waltzing Matilda" with their unique style. We have been learning about the iconic lyrics and attributes of the poem written by Banjo Patterson and even discovered that one of our students is a relative of the great poet himself!

Grade 3/4' s were recording their instrumental percussion rhythm performances this week as a culmination to the few weeks prior we have been exploring elements of music through rhythm, beat, pitch and percussion. In particular, the students had been introduced to the instrument families of the Orchestra, and the role that the conductor, and each section plays.

The Senior Primary classes delved into the world of film music and soundtrack composition this week. Their task was to create a short sample of electronically produced sounds which enabled them to convey meaning and perspective alongside a piece of short film from three different sources. Using Chrome Music Lab and Garage Band apps predominantly, the students were encouraged to experiment creatively with the musical elements of timbre, harmony, dynamics and pitch to compose their own soundtrack.

It was inspiring to see many of the students take to this task with curiosity, appreciation of beauty, and zest!

Finally, I would like to give a big shout out to all those students who have already plucked up courage and motivation to audition for the upcoming MPRPS' Got Talent Show in Term 3.  This year, I would be so thrilled to have even more students participate and join in the fun and experience of performing at "The Round" theatre in Nunawading.

There are still spaces for MORE auditions in Week 5 and hopefully we can announce the contestants in the Talent Show by the end of Week 6.

Please come and see me or talk to the Performing Arts Captains after Assembly next Monday 13th May, and we can sort something out to include your talent in the show.

Terima Kasih,
