Year 7 Volleyball Cup

Boys Volleyball

On Friday 03 May, the Year 7 volleyball teams took part in a volleyball tournament. It was a cold day so we warmed up straight away before playing our first game against Kew High School. This was the second time we played this team, and from the first set we had a decent lead, whish resulted in us winning all three sets. After the first game we had another win playing against the Upwey Yellows, the B Team.

We had a break refereeing and scoring the next game which was close and interesting to watch. For our third game, we competed against the Upwey Whites, the A Team. We lost after three close sets. After two byes, we found out we had finished second in Pool B and had qualified for finals. We would be playing Tintern, who were first in Pool A. After a long rest, we warmed up and got ready to play!

After a close set and some good rallies, we won the set. We also won the second and were now going to play for the gold medal. In the grand final, it was very close between both teams, however we lost the first set. The second set did not get much better, however we did our best to close the score, but in the end Grange College won. We ended up with silver making us second out of eleven teams.

Girls Volleyball

On Friday 03 May, the Year 7 Girls Volleyball Team challenged various schools at the One Day Schools Cup, which was held at the State Volleyball Centre. It was a day full of strong competition as well as a lot of fun and learning.

Our team victoriously triumphed against their first challenger, Eltham High School, scoring a points total of 53 – 49. Upwey High School and St Michael’s Grammar School were very strong competition and proved to be very challenging, however our team played very well against them, and it was still quite close.

Overall, we finished in 7th place.  We all learnt more about how volleyball is played, as well as rules, skills, and techniques. It was so amazing to watch everyone improve throughout the day and put in heaps of effort is every serve, dig and set. Thank you so much to Dane and Mrs Baynham for coming along to support and coach us on the day. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the competition – everyone played amazingly.

VCE Top Designs Excursion

The Year 11 and 12 Visual Communication classes travelled to the Melbourne Museum to attend Top Designs as part of the 2024 VCE ‘Season of Excellence’. During their visit, fashion writer and curator, Paola Di Trocchio discussed her design process and experiences, including her work at the National Gallery of Victoria and Melbourne Fashion Festival.

Following this, students were given the chance to explore the range of Top Design folios, drawing inspiration from the showcased works. These not only established a benchmark for excellence, but also provided valuable insights into how students could infuse similar creativity into their own projects, thus unlocking their full creative potential!

Year 7 Geography

This week, our Year 7 students took their classroom learning into the field, collecting water data including turbidity, pH, temperature, and micro- and macro-organisms. They will now use this data to compile a fieldwork report reflecting on the water quality of Scotchmans Creek and Valley Reserve. Additionally, they will report on the management of these facilities by the local council and the Friends of Scotchmans Creek.
