Term 2
The year 7’s have certainly settled into high school life and have kicked off Term 2 with a magnificent start to their learning and exciting events expected over the next few weeks. The year 7 team are working hard to finalise camp details and students have begun planning their cabin and activity groups during form group. Thank you to Mr White for all his hard work making sure everything is organised for the trip to Coolamatong, the students are excited for camp.
Classes are already working towards their first learning task for the term with results due to be published in the coming weeks. The year 7 girls AFL team went out in week 1 and from all reports, although there wasn’t a win, the girls had a fantastic day and represented the school wonderfully. The year 7 boys AFL team will be heading out next week and I look forward to hearing about their day when they get back!
At the end of last term, we were fortunate enough to have MindfullAus come to our school and work with our year 7’s. MindfullAus presenter Matt, talked to students about how important it is for young people to feel “loved, seen, heard and valued”. We will continue to work with MindfullAus philosophies throughout the year, supporting our students to have “healthier hearts and lighter minds”.
Year 7’s finished the term with a whopping 4339 KPA’s and the opening of the KPA shop has seen students reap the rewards of these efforts spending these KPA’s on fantastic treats and prizes. To celebrate meeting their KPA goals at the end of term, students were able to wear their pyjamas on the last day. This term the year 7’s have a goal of 4400 KPA’s - a goal they are all working hard to achieve!
Last Tuesday 23rd of May, students were very brave when receiving their updated immunisations and they were even rewarded with a lollypop for their efforts. Well done to everyone who made the arrangements and supported students to access this fantastic initiative at school.
Once again year 7’s exceeded all expectations with their March Learning Behaviour Updates. We had a HUGE number of students receiving above a 3.5 GPA average and a special congratulations to the following students who received a hot chip lunch for achieving a GPA of 3.9 and above! A special mention to Corey Ray who achieved a perfect 4.0!

The countdown to camp is on and students are excited to get organised! Camp will be week 6 and we will leave from school on Tuesday 21st May and return to school on Friday 24th May. Those students who are not attending camp are expected at school and together we have started planning the alternative program they will be participating in while the rest of the cohort is away.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding camp, please don’t hesitate to contact myself or the year 7 team to discuss them! A packing guide and all other information will be available in the coming weeks so please check in with your student if you are wanting more information, they may have left it in their bag!
A huge thank-you to our year 7 student leaders and year 10 Peer Support leaders, who assisted with the smooth running of awareness day this year. The year 7 student leaders accompanied, supported, and engaged with the grade 5/6 students as they participated in a “day in the life” of a Kurnai student.
These students also assisted in the setting up, and wrote, rehearsed and presented speeches at the parent information session after school. Thank-you Molly, Lachlan, Tyler, Riley, Declan, Ebony, Blake, and Liam for representing our school so magnificently, I’m sure the parents, teachers and primary school students were impressed by your knowledge, skills and competence, just as much as the Kurnai College staff were.
Mobile phones are required to be kept in student’s lockers from the beginning of the day until the conclusion of the day. If you need to get in touch with your child, please contact the front office and messages will be passed on, likewise if students are unwell, they need to go to sickbay and parents will be contacted via our first aid officer. Students have also been reminded that devices and laptop cameras are not to be used in classes to record or take photos of students or teachers without permission, this message has been delivered to students and we appreciate your support in reiterating the school policies.
If you have any issues or concerns, please let me know so I can follow it up. Students who are found to have a mobile phone on them during school times, will have it confiscated and parents are required to collect it from the front office.
As the cooler weather brings an array of colds and flu’s, we know students may be getting sick and we prefer not to have contagious symptoms at school. If your child is unwell and not at school, please ensure you contact our attendance line and let them know, or alternatively, log into compass and complete the attendance note yourself. In an ideal world we would have every student at school every day, but if that’s not possible, please inform the attendance officer so we can support your student with opportunities to catch up on missed work.
Students have been working on making a 3D sculpture of a puppy using a range of recycling materials and plaster strips. Students have been enjoying learning how to use plaster strips when covering their sculptures.
