Harmony Week Afro-Latin Dance with Auburn High

Starting with the basics...
Starting with the basics...

To celebrate Harmony Week, a group of Year 6 students participated in the Afro-Latin Dance at Auburn High School, as a contribution to Harmony Week during lunchtime.

Harmony Week is a week to recognise Australia's multiculturalism and the message that everyone belongs. There are many ways to celebrate Harmony Week. From sharing meals with friends and family, or even participating in local events held in your neighbourhood, every effort made to recognise Harmony Week counts!

Along with the students from Auburn High School, our dancers learned quickly, each dance move only being practised and demonstrated due to the short amount of time. In the span of forty minutes, we warmed up with basic dance moves and stretching before being taught how to dance African dances, with quick and loud percussion music. A prize was awarded to the dancer who had the best learning skills and efforts. Although not everyone received a prize, everyone did enjoy the experience.

Building Language Leaders

We are delighted to share the success of our Year 6 students who participated in the recent Building Language Leaders on Thursday. This learning event is part of the Department of Education’s Victorian Challenge and Enrichment series with the aim to provide high-ability students in Victorian government schools with activities that engage, challenge and extend their learning across areas of the Victorian Curriculum. The goal of Building Language Leaders is to empower our senior students to become leaders and enrich the language learning experience of their younger peers.

During the two-hour event, our Year 6 students began with a leader training session, where they learned the skills and knowledge to use games to facilitate Chinese language learning. Then our new leaders embarked on their mission: to guide Year 1 students in learning Mandarin through interactive activities. Our language leaders demonstrated the ability to lead, teach and enrich the language learning experience for all involved.

We are very proud of the achievement of our Year 6 language leaders and looking forward to more opportunities to nurture and celebrate the leadership potential of our students in the future.

Volunteering at ASPS

After reviewing our current processes, we have developed a Parent/Volunteer Helper Handbook.

Going forward, all volunteers at ASPS (sporting events, classroom reading, excursions, SAKG, canteen etc.) will be required to read this handbook and return the two signed forms, along with their WWC, to the office.

Once this has occurred, then you can volunteer at ASPS.

Please find the Parent/Volunteer Helper Handbook below:
