What have we been learning about in Physical Education?
Foundation - In this past month the Foundation students have developed their striking techniques, focussing on the forehand strike using modified tennis racquets. This week we turned our attention to learning techniques to bounce a ball effectively and dribble a basketball.
Years 1 + 2 - During May the year 1 and 2 students developed their forehand and two-hand side-arm striking technique (e.g. baseball swing) using different bats and tees. They have now progressed to perfecting their bouncing and dribbling skills.
Years 3 - 6 - The middle and senior students have all been working on their skills and understanding around net/wall games. We have played various modified games of Newcomb ball, volleyball and badminton while also enjoying some table tennis and Spike Ball. Each class also demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship while completing their Term Two assessments as they played modified invasion and net/wall games to demonstrate their game sense.
What a big term of cross country events it has been with perfect weather on show at all three of the major events.
House Cross Country - It was fantastic to see the whole school out on the oval to run, support their house and enjoy getting active. There was great enthusiasm and dedication across all year levels and some fantastic performances. Everyone who ran and supported should be very proud of themselves and the effort they put in for their house. A huge thankyou to all the teachers and parents who helped out on the day to enable the event to run smoothly.
Once all the points had been tallied it was RED HOUSE that emerged victorious! Well done Red House.

The top 10 place winners at the House Cross Country in Year 4 - 6 progressed to the District Cross Country event held at Dendy Park on Wednesday the 15th of May. The team of 72 students represented the school extremely well on the day, supporting each other and putting in 100% effort in all of their runs. We finished the overall competition in 5th place and the aggregate competition in 3rd with Beaumaris North winning the day.
There were some fantastic individual performances from students who finished in the top 10 and all progressed to the Division Cross Country Event:

9/10 Boys - Lucas Godsall (10th)
11 Girls - Vivienne Baker (1st), Elsa Harvey (6th)
11 Boys - Flynn Baker (7th)
12/13 Boys - Sam Lynn (2nd), Josh Growse (3rd)
Division Cross Country - The group of seven students travelled to Karkarook Park on Thursday the 23rd of May. The report from the team was that the course was much more challenging than the previous two competitions and there was some very talented runners in attendance. Congratulations to all the students for their fantastic efforts representing BRPS and particularly to Vivi Baker who finished 4th in the 11 year old girls event and is progressing to the Regional Cross Country event on the 12th of June. Good luck Vivi, we are all behind you!
Run Club is continuing for the remainder of this term at 8am on Wednesdays. Debbie Halas has also managed to secure some sponsorship from Woolworths Metro in Black Rock who have kindly agreed to donate a box of fruit for the runners. It's a great healthy way to kick start the students' day!
A reminder that whilst the running club is predominantly aimed at the students in Years 4 - 6, younger students are welcome to attend. We are asking however that if your child in Foundation - Year 3 is going to attend that a parent also stays to supervise them in case the activity becomes a bit too much for them.
