From the Principal

Dear LPS Families and Friends,

Welcome to term 2. I hope that you all enjoyed the holiday break and managed some quality family time together. I was fortunate enough to spend the holidays in Fiji with my immediate and some extended family. We had a wonderful time relaxing and enjoying the warmer temperatures (a very distant memory now!) as well as experiencing some cultural aspects of Fiji.

Term 2 is a busy term, which culminates in reports in June. Reports will go home on Wednesday 26th June.  This year we will again be holding Student-led Conferences in term 3 to provide additional reporting to parents on student progress. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s progress, you can request a meeting with the classroom teacher at any point in the term. Remember, your classroom teacher is always the first point of contact for school concerns.

ANZAC Day assembly

Once again this year, our school leaders prepared and ran a simple but moving ceremony to acknowledge ANZAC Day. Students read the poem 'For the Fallen' and shared stories about local veterans.  We played the Last Post, and the whole school stood still and silent for this sombre occasion. Well done to our school leaders, Sienna, Colby, Caitlyn and Ayda on such a great job and to all students for the respect they demonstrated throughout the assembly.

First Aid training

Over the last two Wednesday afternoons, Healthguard First Aid Training Services led LPS staff through a CPR Training Course and the Level 2 Update.  You will be pleased to know we all passed.

2025 Prep Enrolments

2025 Prep enrolments are now open. The Department of Education and Training has released a new state-wide Prep digital enrolment and timeline and this timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Prep at a Victorian government primary school. Enrolments are now open and the registration link for the enrolment application can be accessed from our school website.

What you need to do:

● Submit an enrolment form for Prep by Friday 26 July 2024

● You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 29 July and Friday 9 August 2024

● When you receive an offer of placement, you should accept the offer by Friday 23 August 2024.

Year 6-7 Transition

Our grade 6 students received their Year 6 – 7 Transition Forms last Wednesday.  If you have not received yours, please check your child’s bag or get in contact with our office.  Transition Forms are due Friday 10 May.

Crossings

We mentioned at assembly the correct use of crossing the road using the ‘Lolly Pop’ attendants both before and after school. I cannot stress enough that it is absolutely imperative that we all observe the road laws and teach our children to use the safest options and not just the quickest! This is definitely a partnership between the school and families so the message is strong and clear for all children.

Napoleon Road - Maintenance Works Sunday May 5 to mid June

We have been advised that Napoleon Road between Kellets Road and Lysterfield Road will be closed nightly betweem 9:00pm and 5:00am; Sundays to Thursdays. Lane closures and a speed reducation will be in place on Napoleon Road between 9:00am and 3.30pm, Mondays to Fridays with traffic managments controllers and signs to help you safley move through the area.  With this being during school hours, please allow additional time for pick up and drop off.

Term 2 changes

We farewell Mr Likai Lin for the remainder of term 2 as he enjoys some overseas travel with his family.  In his absence, Miss Ashley Yankos will be taking specialist classes. Please read my letter sent via Compass for further details about this.

Have a wonderful weekend!
