Green Thumbs and Cooking Crew - Week 7
On a gloomy, cold, drizzly Friday, The Green Thumbs and Cooking Crew cooked Green Mustards Fried Rice using the green mustards and spring onion from our vegetable garden.
The Green Thumbs also harvested spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, brussell sprouts and extra green mustards that were shared evenly between our families. We are looking forward to cooking at home with our parents and enjoying the vegetables at home.
The Cooking Crew chopped the green mustards and sliced the spring onions. They fried the rice with the green mustards and garnished the fried rice with the spring onions. We are hoping that the meal will taste crunchy, hot and flavoursome.

Garden-to-Plate Adventures with the Green Thumbs and Cooking Crew
Last Friday, June 19th, our Green Thumbs and Cooking Crew rolled up their sleeves for a delicious garden-to-plate experience! Using fresh tatsoi grown right here in our Vegiepod, the team whipped up mouthwatering flat bread served with homemade tatsoi pesto. The kitchen was filled with excitement as everyone savoured the tasty results—so popular, in fact, that many students were hoping for seconds!
While exploring the Vegiepod, we were thrilled to spot our celery, wombok, and spring onions sprouting—these were planted just a month ago and are already growing strong. Despite the chilly, misty afternoon, the Green Thumbs bravely took on the weather and planted pea seeds along the trellis, ensuring our garden continues to flourish.
We also celebrated harvesting broccoli and cabbage, which was sent home with families to enjoy. Don’t worry if you missed out on seconds this time—when our tatsoi regrows, we’ll send some home so you can whip up your own delicious pesto!
Stay tuned for more garden adventures, and thank you to everyone who gets involved and makes our veggie patch such a vibrant part of school life!
Exciting Football Coaching Opportunity at Niangala Public School
Students at Niangala Public School are thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in specialised football (soccer) coaching, thanks to a collaboration with Northern NSW Football and Sporting Schools Australia. The program commenced on Friday, 12 June, and will continue throughout the remainder of the term.
Led by coach Aden Hall, these sessions are designed to develop students’ skills, teamwork, and passion for the sport in a fun and supportive environment. The coaching program aligns with our commitment to promoting physical activity and offering diverse sporting opportunities to our students.
We are grateful to Northern NSW Football and Sporting Schools Australia for supporting this initiative and look forward to seeing our students grow both on and off the field!
Fortnightly Special Religious Education with Mr Neil Hunt
We are delighted to have Mr. Hunt from the Anglican Church in Walcha leading our Special Religious Education sessions every fortnight. These special classes offer students a unique and engaging way to explore stories from the Bible.
During these sessions, students have the opportunity to reenact biblical stories, bringing them to life with the help of costumes and props thoughtfully provided by Mr. Hunt. This hands-on approach helps deepen their understanding and connection to the stories.
On alternating weeks, Mr. Hunt switches things up by bringing his guitar and teaching adapted songs that tell the biblical narratives. The combination of music and storytelling creates a memorable and enjoyable learning experience for all the children involved.
We thank Mr. Hunt for his ongoing dedication and creativity in making Special Religious Education both fun and meaningful for our students.
