Laura Jane's Message

A message from our St Gabriel's Principal

Dear Families,

On Tuesday 9 June, our staff came together for a powerful day of Professional Learning centered on our mission as a Catholic school. The day was facilitated by Professor Brother David Hall. It was an enriching opportunity for our educators to pause, reflect, and deepen their own connection with God so that they can continue to walk alongside your children in their faith journey.  Religious education at our school is designed to be engaging, meaningful, and connected to the children’s daily lives and experiences. Now more than ever, our Catholic values serve as an essential anchor for our school community.  Our learning from this day will inspire future planning in religious education for our school community.

As we reach the conclusion of Term 2.  We take a moment to reflect on the vibrant, diverse, and enriching experiences that have filled our hubs and school throughout the term. Together, we have celebrated faith, culture, community, and witnessed the growth of the children.

We have enjoyed many engaging, joyful and rich learning experiences both inside and outside our school.  The children have ventured beyond the Hubs this term to connect with the world around them. A highlight for me was the Year 5/6 camp at Portsea. Time on a camp with children provides such a wonderful opportunity to get to know them at a deeper level and to see their many talents and gifts in action!  We acknowledge the educators who make camps so much fun for the children. Through Hub learning and the other excursions and incursions, the children embraced wonderful opportunities to build understanding, independence and resilience.  The celebration of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and Confirmation with our Parish school, St Joseph the Worker have been so special for the Year 3 and Year 6 children.  We congratulate all the children and thank their families for supporting them on their spiritual journey.  It was important for us to be involved in Reconciliation Week and Africa Day and these events allowed us to pause, listen, learn, and honour the diverse histories and vibrant cultures that make up our global and local communities.

During our Planning Week, our educators worked tirelessly alongside our leadership team to look closely at children’s data and share insights for Term 3 planning. Their hard work and dedication ensure that we are continually designing rich, targeted, and engaging learning experiences tailored to the unique needs of every child. We are incredibly blessed to have a staff so deeply committed to educational excellence.

Finally, thank you to all of our families for your ongoing partnership, support, and enthusiasm throughout the term.

I wish you all a safe, happy, and restful break from the school routine. We look forward to welcoming all of our students back, refreshed and ready, for Term 3 on Tuesday 14 July.

Warm wishes,

Laura Merrick
