Pathways

Year 10 students recently attended the Greater Western Sydney Careers Market at the Penrith Regional Valley Sports Centre as they begin preparing for the important subject selection decisions ahead. The event provided an incredible opportunity for students to explore a wide range of universities, TAFE pathways, colleges, employers and industry groups all under one roof, helping them think more deeply about their future pathways beyond school. We were incredibly proud of the positivity, curiosity and maturity shown by our students throughout the day as they asked questions, discovered new career ideas and stepped outside their comfort zones.

Building on this experience, Year 10 will take part in tailored sessions this Monday focused on identifying their strengths, talents, interests and motivations to support informed subject choices aligned to their future careers and pathways goals. The day will also include a panel of current Year 11 students who have generously accepted the invitation to share insights into their subjects and pathway experiences, with students already preparing thoughtfully, through a series of bespoke career quizzes completed in advance.

Last week, a group of Year 11 students attended the Aviation Careers Event at Western Sydney International Airport, gaining a firsthand look at the exciting career opportunities connected to one of Western Sydney’s most transformational projects. Following an EOI process, the ten students explored pathways across aviation, airport operations, border services, biosecurity, cargo, freight, education and more through targeted industry sessions and networking opportunities with prospective employers. Students also heard from WSI’s CPO Kirby Grattan and COO Matt Duffy, who shared insights into the enormous scope of opportunities linked to the soon-to-open airport terminal and surrounding business precinct. We sincerely thank all industry partners and the WSI team for providing such an inspiring and valuable experience as students begin considering where their future pathways may take flight.

Students had an exciting opportunity this week as we welcomed Allyson Chicote from STEP UP: Playconomics for a Lunch and Learn session and interactive workshops with our Year 10 Commerce classes. As one of the game’s designers, Allyson introduced students to the worldwide-first immersive online platform hosted by UNSW, where players explore business, commerce and economics through real decision-making, teamwork and interactive gameplay while building valuable real-world skills. Students were highly engaged throughout the sessions and loved discovering how creative, innovative learning experiences like Playconomics can connect directly to future study pathways, university credits and careers in business and entrepreneurship.

Earlier this week, students welcomed the University of Wollongong to our Lunch and Learn guest speaker series, with Valeria from UOW’s High School Engagement Team showcasing the exciting opportunities connected to the new Liverpool campus and the broader UOW experience. From new courses, pathways, scholarships and early admission options to Work Integrated Learning, vibrant campus life and study abroad experiences, students were given plenty to think about as they explored future university pathways. And there’s still more to come with an exciting lineup of Lunch and Learn sessions across the remainder of Term 2:

1 June: Law Careers with CCC Alumnae Jess

10 June: UNSW

11 June: International College of Management Sydney

15 June: NSW Health Pathways with Kia-Lee Sutton

17 June: CSU

22 June: UTS

24 June: Torrens University

29 June: University of Tasmania

And in some exciting late-breaking news, we are incredibly proud of a record number of Year 11 students who were successful in gaining a place in the highly sought-after CSPD/ACU Step Up Into Teaching (SUIT) Program. With hundreds of applicants across Sydney, our College celebrated an outstanding 12 successful future educators, who will undertake this unique program later this year. The program provides valuable experiences and opportunities that support direct entry into ACU education pathways, making this a fantastic achievement for our aspiring teachers. Congratulations to all students involved on this outstanding success!
