Feast of Pentecost: United in the Spirit

The Feast of Pentecost is one of the most significant celebrations in the Catholic Church, marking the moment the Church was born. As described in Acts 2:1–4, the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples, and “they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues.” Remarkably, people from many nations could hear and understand them, even though they spoke different languages. This powerful moment reveals Pentecost as a story of both diversity and unity, where the Spirit unites all people in God’s love.

Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit continues to guide and strengthen us today. As Jesus promises in John 14:26, the Spirit “will teach you everything and remind you of all that I have said to you.” We are called to be witnesses to the Good News, using the gifts of the Spirit to live with courage, faith, and compassion.

This message is especially meaningful in our College community. With many cultures, languages, and backgrounds represented, we reflect the richness of diversity present at Pentecost. Whether our stories begin tens of thousands of years ago with our Aboriginal sisters, or in countries far across the world, we are united here and now for a shared purpose. The Holy Spirit brings us together and calls us to recognise the strength found in our diversity and the importance of reconciliation and unity.

As a College, we gathered together last Friday to celebrate this important feast through a shared Liturgy. This was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on how the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives and within our community. As a powerful expression of Pentecost, students led the Prayers of the Faithful in the languages of their heritage, highlighting the unity found within our diversity. Filled with the fire of the Spirit, we are challenged to actively reach out, to serve others, and to make a positive difference in the world. While responding to the Spirit is not always easy, it invites us to trust in God’s will, recognise our gifts, and use them to build a more just and compassionate world.

Lunchtime Chapel Mass and Reconciliation

Students are warmly invited to attend a Lunchtime Chapel Mass and Reconciliation on Wednesday, 3 June.

This is a special opportunity for students to gather in prayer, celebrate the Eucharist, and, if they wish, participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Taking time for reflection and prayer during the school day can help students deepen their faith and experience a sense of peace and renewal.

We extend our sincere thanks to Father Johnson and Father Sheldon for their ongoing support of our College community.

Upcoming Staff Formation Day - Student Pupil Free Day

Please note that Tuesday, 9 June will be a pupil free day as staff participate in our annual College Formation Day.

This important day provides an opportunity for both teaching and non-teaching staff to focus on our shared mission as a Catholic school. Throughout the day, staff will reflect on how our faith is lived out in everyday school life, through relationships, learning, and the wellbeing of our students.

Building on previous formation, the day will encourage staff to recognise and strengthen the ways our Catholic identity is expressed across the College. It is an opportunity to consider how we can continue to create a community where every student feels a strong sense of belonging, finds meaning in their learning, and experiences faith in ways that are real and relevant to their lives.

We thank you for your ongoing support of staff formation, which plays an important role in enriching the educational and faith experience of all students.
