KLA Feature: Religious Education

Term 2 has continued to be an interesting and engaging time in Religious Education throughout the College. Our Year 7-10 students are diligently exploring the Encountering Jesus curriculum, with Year 11 students completing a depth study in Christianity within the Studies of Religion courses and examining the Trinitarian God and Humanity in the Studies in Catholic Thought course. Year 12 students have continued to build their content knowledge and further develop their writing skills and examination techniques as they approach the final few months of their learning at the College.

As always the College continues to complement our students’ academic learning with faith-based initiatives and practices readily available to all students. For example, this May our students have the opportunity to pray the rosary in the College Chapel perfectly aligning with the Year 10 unit in which our students are currently studying the five key teachings of Mary and her significant role within the life of the Church.

Further, our Year 7 students are learning about the topic What is Truth?, and are currently preparing to complete a Common Task which examines a real world scenario looking at the role of making ethical decisions when deciding whether to purchase from companies such as Shein and Temu. Our students are learning about the important social and environmental impacts of consumerism and fast fashion within the fast-paced and accessible world in which they live.

Year 9 are currently examining Catholic Apologetics and the complexity of knowing good and evil within the topic God is love. Why is there evil in the World? The students have analysed scripture and case studies to understand the gift of free will from God and its human application. Year 8 are studying the topic Applying the Bible to Life and are creating a magazine article on the role, guidance and inspiration of the Scriptures in the daily lives of young Catholics.

On the whole, we are blessed to have students that continue to ask insightful questions as they navigate the challenging realities that exist within our busy world. It is our continued source of pride that our students do so with a faith-based worldview.
