Principal Report

Principal Report

As we wave goodbye to Melbourne’s (official!) Winter time, we embrace Spring and its chance to reflect on new growth and change. School environments may have steady routines and clear and high expectations, but they are also dynamic learning spaces for staff and students alike, where taking risks is encouraged, goals are set at a challenging level, and acknowledging and embracing differences is key. Empathy and resilience underpin all this work and we encourage parents to reflect on how you can also build these skills at home.

Book Week 2023

Book Week 2023, ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’ has come and gone and what a highlight it proved to be again! Last Wednesday’s Book Character Dress Up Parade was a sight to behold, with a huge amount of fun and creativity on display – well done to the students and families on another wonderful effort! A further congratulations goes to the year level winners – I certainly wouldn’t have liked that task as it proved to be full of very difficult decisions. The Book Fair was also greatly received by the students, and I would like to acknowledge and thank the many parents that volunteered to cover the morning and afternoon shifts. Without your generous support and donation of your time, we would not be able to host such things. A big THANK YOU from the whole school community.

Help re. Gate A / Safety Issue

We would like your support to ensure that Gate A (near the office/sensory garden) remains properly closed as you come onto the school grounds. Although it is tempting to keep it open with a rock, it is important that it remains a gate that students are unable to open, particularly during play times, and during before school care times. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Last Day of Term Friday September 15  - Footy Colours Day & Early Finish

A fun and bright way to end a pretty dull and chilly term is with the traditional (Footy) Colours Day.  Students are invited to come along on this day in the colours of their favourite team (footy, netball, soccer, basketball, etc.) or even their favourite characters – whatever colours make your child feel happy.

Students are asked to make a gold coin donation for the privilege of wearing casual clothes on this day with all funds going to this very worthy cause - Fight Cancer Foundation Footy Colours Day : Home.

An early reminder that we finish the end of term at 2:30pm of Friday 15th September so please make appropriate pick up arrangements, including utilising after school care through QB if necessary  or phone 03 9742 5040.

School Council

Our dedicated team of parents and staff that make up our School Council meet twice a term to discuss issues relating to the school and how to support the principal and school to provide the best educational outcomes for our many students. We met again this past Monday, August 28th. The NLPS School Council has four subcommittees that meet prior to each School Council meeting and are always happy to have more members.

  • Finance (School Budgets, Locally Raised Funds)
  • Education (Education Policy)
  • Facilities & Management (Buildings & Grounds, Out of School Hours Care, Hire Agreements)
  • Community Engagement (Uniforms, Events, Parent Clubs, Fund Raising)

For more information about the council and its role, please refer to our website

Please reach out to the school council via email should you wish to join one of these subcommittees.

Our next SC Meeting is Monday October 16th.
