A Word From Leadership

Pupil Free Day tomorrow

A reminder that tomorrow (Friday 8th September) the primary school will have a pupil free day (school closure). This day has historically been for families to attend the Royal Adelaide Show.

Our staff team will be completing a full day update of 1st Aid training. Staff from Imagination OSHC will also be completing the training, so our OSHC service will not operate tomorrow.

Trivia Night fun!

What a night! The 2023 Good Shepherd Trivia Night was a winner! Thank you to our wonderful parent community for their support, and for some AMAZING costumes! We'll see you all again next year!

Reflections

I have recently retuned back from some long service leave in Tasmania with my family.

During this time, I had plenty of opportunities to reflect individually and with the family.  During this time away there were many positive activities and situations that we were able to reflect on positively as individuals and collectively.  But there were some tough days.

On our return, getting back into the routine of life means other external pressures can unfortunately impact the way we relate to one another.  Tough days happen!  Some questions that are helpful to ask on those tough days follow.  These questions help people to process what has happened and the emotions that arise as a result.  They also help children to work with adults to problem solve ways to be proactive and advocate for themselves.

Reflection questions for parents to ask children after a tough day…

  • What’s been happening?
  • What’s been your part in the problem?
  • What made you decide to say or do that?
  • How did it work for you?
  • How are you feeling about it now?
  • How do you think others might be feeling?
  • What might begin to fix this?
  • Who at school might be able to help with the fixing?
  • How might you ask them for help?

Supporting our children and young people to have these conversations supports their self confidence and promotes taking responsibility for their actions but also for promoting positive change into the future.  We know that these conversation skills are part of a life long process, but we grow and learn everyday and the more we practice the more confident we become.

Blessings as you go about your week finding both things to be grateful for, and a double measure for the support you provide when hard things happen.
