This Week is Child Protection Week

2023 Child Protection Week shines a light on children growing up safe and supported in their family, church, community, and culture. Child Protection Week provides us with an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to building a church of trust, safety, inclusion, and respect for all, especially our children and adults at risk.

It is a time in which we pray for those who have been harmed by abuse directly and indirectly. We acknowledge the immense damage caused by the sexual abuse of children and adults at risk, including by priests, religious and lay people within the Catholic context.

The theme for 2023 National Child Protection Week is Every child, in every community, needs a fair go and where we start matters.

Where we start our lives, in terms of where we live, matters. Where we start as a faith-filled community in providing a safe place for all, matters.

Where we start as decision-makers in addressing the complex issue of child abuse, matters.

It matters to the lives of children everywhere.
