Subject Selection for 2024

Monday 17th July hosted the Futures Expo at both our Clyde North and Cranbourne campuses.Students in Yrs 8 to 10 spent the day being enriched by gaining in depth knowledge about the many options available for the coming year. In the afternoon families, parents and guardians were invited to speak with our Key Learning Area Coaches about subject options and listen to our curriculum experts about the learning framework for their children. The presentations for the afternoon sessions are located on the Careers Expo SPACE page for those who missed them.

Subject selections interviews are underway for the Year 9 students and families with our Year 10 family meetings happening next week. We remind students and families all subject selections need to be submitted through Web Preferences and will close on 1st August.

Questions can be directed to your campus Careers and VET Coordinator or your House Leader.  Meeting times are available on campus or online to accommodate everyone through this period.

 

VET Programs for 2024.

St. Peter’s offers a broad range of VET in school courses on site and the costs of these programs is currently $150 per year. View these courses in detail by clicking on the VET Faculty SPACE page.

There are several other providers in the region who also offer VET in School programs such as Chisholm Institute, Foundation Learning College and various local secondary schools. Please note there are much higher additional costs for these programs. Some programs can cost up to $3,000 per year.  When selecting a VET in School program please be sure to consult the VET Faculty SPACE page. Here you will find course outlines for our internal program, links to documents outlining all of the course options available in our region and a link to the current costs to families this year for each individual course. We anticipate all external courses to slightly increase each year. Be sure to research the costs associated with VET programs using this resource.

There are still vacancies in many of our internal VET courses. For students who are still keen toincorporate a VET course into their senior students please direct questions to your campus Careersand VET Coordinator.

VU | Careers for Young Women in Sport ForumAugust 25, 2023

Victoria University is committed to creating no boundaries for women and girls in sport and physicalactivity. Our goal is to advance girls in sport and physical activity by:

This free event is designed for girls in Year 10 – 12 who aspire to a career in sport. Join us for a day of inspiring talks and masterclasses, and discover career options and pathways.

 

Volunteering ideas – where can you start?  If you’ve been thinking about volunteering, that’s great! There are heaps of places out there that are always looking for keen helpers, and many of them welcome volunteers from ages 16+.  Before we get into some places where you might like to volunteer, let’s have a quick look at the benefits of volunteering.

What’s in it for you?

Well, you won’t get rich financially – but you’ll get rich in many other ways:

  • Mentally and/or physically stimulating

Whatever your motivation for volunteering and no matter what your interests are, there will be away you can get involved with something that matters to you, and that will also make a positive difference to you.

Not sure where to start?  Here are some ideas for ways you can volunteer your time:

Environmental initiatives

  1. Participate in community clean-up events.
  2. Join a local tree planting or gardening project.
  3. Assist in wildlife conservation efforts.

Mentoring and education

  • Tutor students in subjects you excel in.
  • Teach workshops on specific skills (e.g., coding, art, cooking).

Aged care

  • Visit nursing homes to spend time with and support the elderly.
  • Assist with organising social activities for seniors.

Homelessness and hunger

  • Volunteer at a local food bank or soup kitchen.
  • Distribute food and essential items to homeless individuals.
  • Help organise donation drives for clothing, blankets, and food.

Animal welfare

  • Volunteer at an animal shelter or rescue organisation.
  • Foster animals awaiting adoption.
  • Assist with pet adoption events.

Healthcare and support

  • Offer companionship and assistance to patients in hospitals or hospices.
  • Volunteer for crisis hotlines or support groups.
  • Help organise blood donation drives.
