Clyde North Campus News

Another busy week on the Clyde North Campus!

Multiple House Competitions, Science Week, Swimming Assessments and of Course our SCHOOL PRODUCTION coming to the forefront of our community.

The School Production (Legally Blonde) represents a lot more than the Performing Arts showpiece that is a near sell out over the three nights it will run this week. The production will be held in a state of the art facility that has been years in the planning and building phases.

Staff and students have been working over 100 hours to put the show together, with 5.30pm finishes and 6 hour rehearsals on Sunday’s the norm for the past few weeks. It represents an unparalleled dedication from all involved. There have been many challenges along the way e.g. Nerves of performers, set building and painting, illness and injury (Mrs Lewis has been in a moon boot for 3 weeks!). However, the Production Team have shown grit and determination to ensure they have embodied the old saying that, “The Show must go on!”

If you still haven’t got your tickets then CLICK HERE to see if can catch the amazing show running from Thursday – Saturday this week!

Thinking of the perseverance shown by our staff and students here, we recognise that this is a necessary trait to develop as we are now over halfway through Term 3. Our Year 12’s have only 6 weeks of school left  They will have completed all of their studies in four weeks’ time to enable them to prepare for the end of year exams. The pressure is on.

Perseverance could be defined as, continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. Therefore, it has much greater application than just preparing for the end of Year 12. Perseverance can assist us in:

Developing Character: Perseverance shapes your character by teaching you patience, determination, and resilience. These qualities not only help you overcome challenges but also make you a stronger, more adaptable person.

Building Relationships: Perseverance isn't just about individual achievement; it's also about working collaboratively and supporting others in their endeavors. By persevering together, you can form deeper and more meaningful relationships.

Perseverance can help preparation for future success by:

Professional World: The professional world is filled with uncertainties, unexpected obstacles, and competition. Perseverance equips you with the ability to navigate these challenges and maintain your drive towards your career goals.

Innovation and Creativity: Perseverance encourages you to think creatively and find alternative solutions when faced with roadblocks. Some of the greatest inventions and discoveries have come from individuals who persisted despite initial failures.

If this is our understanding of perseverance then it is important for us (the College) and you (parents and students) to work together (Collaborate) and develop this important trait in our young people. From a College perspective we do this by:

  • Asking students to set themselves SMART Goals each Semester.
  • Reflecting upon these goals and identifying strengths and weaknesses in trying to obtain these goals.
  • Persistent reminders to “Be Not Afraid”. Whether it be trying out for an SIS Team or simply putting your hand up in class to seek help when needed.
  • Accessing supports when times get tough. Speaking with a House Leader, Learning Advisor or School Counsellor can help equip us with some tools when the things are not going as well as we would have liked.
  • Encourage Positive Relationships through our ROCKS. The College consistently reminds our students that our ROCKS are we do…they are not just something we refer to.

While this is not a complete set of works, it can inform parents of conversations they can have at home with their children. Semester Goals and reflections are on your child’s E Portfolio page on SPACE. SPACE also has notices of extra curricular activities that your child can participate in. Sometimes, a push from home can see students improve their engagement in all College activities immensely. The College Production is one such example.

Resilience is not just about enduring challenges, but about growing, learning, and achieving in the face of adversity. By working together (Collaboration) we support the development of a mindset of perseverance in our young people. With this, we hope we can equip them with the tools to tackle any obstacle that comes their way, and to emerge stronger and more capable young adults. For some of our students, Yr 12, we have only 6 weeks left to do this.
