We are 1/2N!

The Big Dig

At the beginning of Term 2, all students in Grades 1 and 2 began our new Inquiry topic of Sustainability. We conducted an experiment where students made predictions about how assorted waste might decompose or change over time when buried in dirt. In pairs, students chose their items to bury in the soil and drew their predictions over time.

In week 9, we had another large group discussion about waste and decomposition over time. Some students shared that they think their predictions are no longer correct, based on new knowledge. We then had our big dig! Everyone enjoyed discovering how their buried waste had changed over time and noticing the similarities in their predictions.

Overall, students really enjoyed exploring how waste changes over time and learning about different ways that we can reduce our waste output.

Stewards of Creation

We have finished our learning about how we are all Stewards of Creation and created a whole class promise to abide by for the rest of the year. We enjoyed reading a variety of glorious stories to which we made personal connections. To celebrate, students enjoyed creating their own wonderful watercolour illustrations of nature.

Playdough

We have begun learning how to write procedural texts by doing a variety of procedural activities. The first activity was making playdough. Students followed specific step-by-step instructions, which were then adapted into writing a procedure. Since then, we have learned how to plant a seed and how to make a sandwich.
