What is a Chaplain?

The school chaplain role involves social, emotional, spiritual and pastoral care. What that looks like at Saltwater P-9 college is a caring, listening ear for the students, teachers and wider school community and an extra support.

Who is Chappy JP?

My name is Chappy JP or JP. I am here to help with whatever needs may arise as stated above, and in addition I support in areas such as grief and loss, social and emotional support, friendship and relationship building, family breakdowns and separations, bullying, educational support or wherever I can be of assistance. I have been a chaplain for over 15 years and have a background with local youth, drug and alcohol recovery programs, education and community programs for 20 years; I have a diploma of youth work, undergraduate university degree in Design Studies - 3D design major, and post graduate degree in Education (Tech. studies, Arts). Throughout these years, my main passion has been about supporting the community and continues to be so.

I have a wife and 5 kids ranging from 25 to 5 years old which keeps me busy and I love the roles in life that I have. I enjoy anything sport, music, food, art, design and creativity and helping people succeed in whatever they are passionate about. I look forward to catching up with you at Saltwater P-9 College. Please don’t hesitate to contact me for any support.

Where can you find me?

I am very excited that I will be in the school MONDAY @ Kirra Place, WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY morning @ Coaching Parade and back at Kirra Place in the afternoons WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY. You can find me around the school grounds, in the WELLBEING Area, 7/8 block etc.

As this is a new program, we are endeavouring to create greater community engagement and connectedness within the school. I  would love feedback on how you would like to be involved to help our student, staff and school community to grow and thrive even more, or needs that we can help you with.
