Year Five

Dear Year Five Families,

As we wrap up Term Two, we reflect on the incredible journey and accomplishments of our Year Five Students. This Semester has been filled with exploration, learning, and growth. Here’s a glimpse into what we’ve been up to.

Inquiry

This week, we wrapped up our third inquiry unit of the year with an engaging Model United Nations activity. Each student was allocated a country and tasked with addressing a range of global issues. This activity allowed students to deepen their understanding of international relations, diplomacy, and global challenges. It was an enriching experience that highlighted the importance of collaboration and negotiation in solving world problems to create a more inclusive world.

Reading

In Reading, we are coming to the end of our cohort novel, August and Jones. This captivating story has provided rich opportunities for discussion, comprehension activities, and personal reflections. The students have thoroughly enjoyed the journey with the characters and have developed a deeper understanding of themes such as friendship, resilience, and empathy.

Writing

In Writing, we focused on persuasive texts. Students learned how to construct strong arguments, use persuasive language, and support their viewpoints with evidence. They enjoyed writing essays and speeches on various topics, honing their skills in influencing and convincing others.

Maths

In Mathematics, we navigated through various areas such as number and place value, time, and most recently, data representation and interpretation. Students created a range of graphs using data sets they gathered themselves. We were beyond impressed with the growth students showed throughout this unit, driven by their hard work and determination to improve. We are currently working on multiplicative thinking before moving onto fractions, decimals and percentages in Term Three.

Surprise Bridal Shower

We also celebrated a special event in Week Ten—a bridal shower for our Assistant Principal, Ms. Danielle Colling. The entire Year Five cohort participated in making this occasion memorable, with handmade cards, well-wishes, and a small celebration. We wish Ms. Colling all the best for her upcoming wedding and a lifetime of happiness.

As we move into Term Three, we are excited about new units of inquiry and continued growth. Thank you to all the families for your support and involvement. We look forward to another term of learning adventures.

Camp

A reminder for all students who are scheduled to attend camp early next term, communication has been sent home with the packing list and information on our allocated activities. We will hold a student camp meeting in Week One to review the information for camp week.
