Join the Green Revolution: Start Composting Today!

We are excited to share a fantastic opportunity to make a positive impact on our environment through composting! Composting is an easy and effective way to manage food waste, reduce landfill contributions, and create nutrient-rich soil for our gardens.

Why Compost?

Every year, an average household can divert approximately 156kg of food waste from landfills by composting. Food waste in landfills breaks down without air, producing methane, a potent greenhouse gas. By composting, we can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and return valuable nutrients to the soil.

Benefits of Composting:

  • Reduces Waste: Composting can cut your household waste in half.
  • Lowers Carbon Footprint: By composting, you reduce methane emissions and your overall carbon footprint.
  • Improves Soil Health: The compost you create is a rich soil and natural fertiliser, perfect for growing healthy gardens.

Home Composting Program

The Brimbank Council offers an excellent Home Composting Program for local residents, including both homeowners and renters. Here are the key details:

Minimise Your Waste

While composting is a great way to manage food waste, the best approach is to minimise the amount of waste you create in the first place. Consider these tips:

  • Buy Smart: Only purchase what you need to avoid excess waste.
  • Use Efficiently: Make the most of the food you have to prevent it from going to waste.

Together, we can make a big difference for our environment. Let's embrace composting and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future!
