Welcome to the Wellbeing Zone. When you enter the zone, you will find a wealth of information about all the things happening in the Wellbeing space at Sunshine Heights PS as well as strategies, articles, book recommendations and events that will help build our dream and culture of Wellbeing throughout our school community, inside and outside of school, so that we can sail together through a universe of possibilities with all the emotional and social skills we need to thrive.
Just wanted to take a moment to wish all of our students and families a wonderful wintry break. I hope you find warmth and connection, and some time to make some memories together with loved ones. I also hope you get an opportunity to rest and fill up your buckets.
See you all in Term 3!
A reminder to our Prep families that our School Nurse Program will start next term.
Information about the program went out 2 weeks ago, along with a link to an online version of the School Entrant Health Questionnaire.
You can access and complete this questionnaire on a mobile phone, computer or tablet.
If you have not yet completed the questionnaire and would like to do so, please use the link below to access the questionnaire: https://students.educationapps.vic.gov.au/sehq/s
If you have started an online questionnaire but have not yet submitted it, please log in, complete the questionnaire, and submit it.
Participation in the program is not mandatory and parent/carer consent is required for the Primary School Nurse to see your child. If you do not wish to participate, you are encouraged to register and select ‘No I do not consent’ in the online questionnaire so that your response is recorded. If you prefer, an identical paper version of the questionnaire is available from your child’s school.
Please only complete one questionnaire per child.
If you have any questions or concerns about this service, you can contact the Primary School Nurse, Melissa Nesbitt via phone on 9194-6378 or email at Melissa.Nesbitt@education.vic.gov.au.
If you have already completed the School Entrant Health Questionnaire, thank you.
Our awesome Resilient Youth and Wellbeing student leaders ran a fantastic PJ Day for our last day of schools to raise money for the Rise Up fund.
Students across the school looked awesomely cosy and we were so stoked with the effort and support.
Between the PJ gold coin donations and our lunch time stall, we raised over $780 to support our families in needing of some assistance to access school events and experiences.
A special shout out to the amazing businesses, who got behind our initiative and donated biscuits and cookies for us to sell. We couldn't have raised the money we did without their support. We will be sharing the websites of these businesses with you when we return in Term 3, so please pay it forward to them, by checking out their business and supporting them in any way you can!
Stay tuned for further fundraising initiatives next term and news about our very own Sunny Seconds Op Shop!

Are you struggling with knowing how to manage your child's screen time? You are not alone! If you would like some tips and strategies, Mackillop Family Services have created a targeted on-demand webinar to address the challenges parents are facing around screen time.
This webinar explores how to incorporate technology into your household without it taking over play, connection and sleep time. As technology forms a large part of modern life, we cannot resist screens in our home but must learn to artfully manage them for each developmental stage. Discover how to keep screens from taking over and transition away from screens without the meltdowns.

Don't forget.....
YOU could be our next Diversity Ambassador!!!
Thanks to a generous grant from the organisation, Together for Humanity, of which we were a lucky recipient, we are super excited to start our own Student & Parent Diversity Ambassadors Program.
The program will see us form a committee of students and parents who represent and advocate for the different diverse groups within our school community, working with their identified community to increase engagement, voice and representation. The committee members will work together to create a shared understanding of - and between - the many diverse communities at Sunshine Heights Primary.
Interested parents and students can complete an expression of interest form, which the 'Together for Humanity' action team of staff will review, shortlist and interview.
The chosen ambassadors will be offered training to help them co-design with their communities to develop initiatives, ideas and processes that help support understanding and awareness of the many ways we are diverse at Sunshine Heights Primary School and to promote empathy, connection and belonging.
If you are passionate about social impact and helping share the voices and stories of your identified community to create a positive impact at Sunshine Heights Primary School, we are searching for diversity ambassadors from ALL diversities (cultural, social, gender, sexuality, religious, disability, racial, mental health, age +++).
If this sounds like something you or your child would be interested in, please complete an expression of interest form HERE.

Our partnership with Happy Space Allied Health has been so amazing and having Liv onsite to support our students (and staff) has been so insightful and useful.
Liv works at our school every Thursday and is now at capacity with the number of students she can see. But... in exciting news... she is keen to increase her days to 2 days every week, so if your child has NDIS and you are looking for a speech pathologist to support them with their communication and social goals and would love your child to attend onsite speech pathology sessions, please reach out to me to let me know what support your child needs and I can connect you with Liv!
After the success of our school-based Speech Pathology program, Sunshine Heights Primary School is once again partnering with Happy Space Allied Health to provide our very first school-based Occupational Therapy (OT) program. If you have NDIS funding, are looking for an incredible occupational therapist to help develop your child's daily living skills and interested in participating in our school-based OT service, please complete this form on the link below to express your interest.
