Celebrating Visual Art: Exploring Yayoi Kusama

This fortnight, our budding young artists have embarked on an exciting journey into the vibrant and imaginative world of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Renowned for her distinctive use of polka dots and bold colours.

Who is Yayoi Kusama?

Yayoi Kusama is a pioneering contemporary artist from Japan, whose work spans various mediums including painting, sculpture, and installation art. Born in 1929, Kusama has become a prominent figure in the art world with her mesmerising and often immersive pieces. Her signature polka dots and infinity rooms are not only visually striking but also deeply personal, reflecting her thoughts on repetition, infinity, and self-obliteration.

Our Students’ Artistic Journey

Inspired by Kusama’s bold style and imaginative concepts, our students delved into studying her artworks, discussing the themes and techniques that make her pieces so extraordinary. To bring their own creativity to life, they learned how to use the digital art app 'Procreate.' Through Procreate, our students explored their interpretations of Yayoi Kusama’s art, creating their own masterpieces filled with vibrant colours and dynamic patterns. This digital tool allowed them to experiment freely and bring their visions to life in ways that mirror Kusama's innovative spirit.

Performing Arts

Grade 4 students have been busy preparing their projects for the Dream Big music festival as part of 'RuOK?' day.

Grade 4A have started to story board and plan their music video. We will be audio recording and filming at the start of Term 3.

Grade 4B have worked with artist John Lane throughout the Term to write lyrics and plan the music video, and Miss Jasmine did some instrumental audio recording with him too. We will be audio recording and filming at the start of Term 3.

STEM

Mario Kart will be held on Thursday's for Grade 5s and 6s at lunchtime in the STEM room. Any Grade 5 and 6 students interested in participating are welcome to join!

Students created their own 'iPads' and have identified their features. Next term, students will be creating sequences of code using iPads so understanding the functions of an iPad is important to ensure they are used safely.

We have completed a range of STEM challenges, such as a bowling challenge, or creating a Minecraft theme park, with the focus being on collaboration during the last two weeks of term.

Swimming is next term for the prep to 2 students and there are spots available for students across those grades. So please get your payment and consent done for your child to attend.
