Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

Attendance

At Macedon Primary School, we believe that consistent attendance is a key factor in your child's academic success and overall development. While we understand that family commitments and holidays can sometimes overlap with the school term, we kindly ask for your cooperation in minimising these disruptions to your child's education.

Why Attendance Matters

  1. Maximised Learning Opportunities: Regular attendance ensures that your child benefits from the full range of educational activities and resources we offer. Each school day is carefully planned to build on the previous day's lessons, making it crucial for students to be present consistently.
  2. Academic Achievement: Studies have shown a strong correlation between regular attendance and higher academic performance. When students attend school regularly, they are more likely to keep up with the curriculum, participate actively in class, and achieve their educational goals.
  3. Social and Emotional Growth: School is not just about academics; it's also a place where children develop essential social skills and build lasting friendships. Consistent attendance helps students stay connected with their peers and feel a sense of belonging within the school community.

Planning for Holidays During School Time

We understand that certain circumstances may require your family to take a holiday during the school term. If this is unavoidable, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Advance Notification: Inform the school well in advance of any planned absences. This allows us to prepare accordingly and minimise the impact on your child's learning experience.
  2. Learning Plans: For extended absences, students may be required to complete a learning plan. This plan, approved by the principal, ensures that your child continues their education while away and stays on track with their classmates.
  3. Collaboration with Teachers: Work closely with your child's teachers to understand the material that will be covered during the absence. This will help your child stay up to date and reduce the risk of falling behind.

How You Can Support Your Child's Attendance

  • Prioritise School: Whenever possible, plan family vacations and appointments outside of school hours and during school breaks.
  • Communicate Early: Notify the school as soon as you know about any planned absences.
  • Stay Engaged: Encourage your child to keep up with their studies, even when they are away from school. Make use of any resources provided by the school to support their learning.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. By working together, we can ensure that every student at Macedon Primary School receives the education they deserve and continues to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
