A Message from our Child Safety Officers
As a school community, we are committed to fostering an environment where our students feel safe, valued and empowered to share their thoughts and concerns. We are excited to share with you a new initiative aimed at enhancing child safety and communication within our school community!
The Feedback Box
This is a new avenue for students to share their thoughts, ideas and concerns with us. There will be two Feedback Boxes located at the Ulverstone Campus; one in the high school Wellbeing Space, and the other in the primary school at the Head of Primary Office.
The Feedback Box at the Burnie Campus will be allocated near Mrs Polden’s office. These locked Feedback Boxes serve as a safe way for students to communicate directly with our school staff. Whether it’s a suggestion for improving the school in some way, a concern, or an idea for a fun school event, we want to hear from our students. By providing a designated space for feedback, we hope to empower our students to take an active role in shaping their educational experience.
Rest assured, all submissions will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, and each message will be carefully reviewed by relevant staff. We believe that every voice matters, and by listening to our students, we can create a school environment that truly reflects their needs and aspirations.
We encourage open communication between students, parents and staff regarding safety concerns. Our doors are always open, and we welcome any feedback or suggestions that may contribute to the betterment of our school.
Thank you for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your children.
God bless,
Mrs Cassie Miles
Child Safety Officer and Co-Head of Primary
ITEC24
50!
Fifty is the number of LCS staff and board members who attended ITEC24 in Perth this week. From the welcome service to the key note speakers, the gathering of Christian educators and organisations from all over Australia was phenomenal, and Leighland Christian School was in the midst of celebration and sharing in the vision on what the future holds. Some of our staff members were given the opportunity to share on the main stage in front of 1000+ attendees, on what innovation looks like at Leighland. The atmosphere was electric as other staff members tossed LCS keepsake items into the audience.
Our very own Dr. Katrina McNab, Ulverstone campus principal, led a workshop on our Pedagogy of Play by implementing a LEGO Serious Play session. The room was packed with educators wanting to learn how to utilise play-based education in their classrooms around the country. More had to be turned away because “there was no more room left in the inn” as men and women collaborated, build and shared through LEGO blocks their own vision for education at their schools.
What a week it has been reflecting on the miraculous work taking place in Christian education. To top it all off ITEC28 was launched with all of the suspense and fanfare that can be mustered and guess where it will be held in 2028? In Hobart TASMANIA!!!!
Staff who were not able to attend ITEC gathered together over the last week to engage in staff led professional development. They dabbled with LEGO Serious Play, were given an update on the primary Christian Living Program, met via zoom with New Tech Aus, spent time delving into differentiation and finished their afternoon creating clay sculptures.
Burnie Front Turning Circle - Important safety notice – restricted access during bus times for student drop-off and pick-up
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Following safety issues identified during bus drop-off and pick-up times on the Burnie Campus, it became necessary for us to review our drop off and pick up processes. As a result of this we will be restricting vehicles entering the front turning circle during bus movement times of a morning and afternoon.
We request that parents do not enter the front entrance car park to drop children off in the turning circle during bus times. Student safety is paramount, and we need to ensure that we are doing all we can to keep the turning circle clear to avoid any incidents occuring. Private vehicles in this area impede the bus driver's ability to safely drop off and pick up students. Cars also restrict traffic flow, buses can be blocked in by private vehicles, and these concerns have been raised by our bus companies.
We will soon install a new sign in this space to advise the following: Staff and school buses only to enter the turning circle during the following bus times: from 8.00 am to 8.20 am and from 3.10 pm to 3:40 pm. Please note the safest place to drop of children is at the rear car park in Hull Street. Students and parents can access the school via the back gate from 8.00 am.
Ongoing student safety is our highest priority, and we request your understanding and adherence to this change in procedure during bus drop-off and pick-up times.
We would also request parents and students only use the designated walkways and not walk across the turning circle or along the rear of parked vehicle to enter the school which minimises any risk of injury from people weaving between vehicles.
Please work with us to help keep everyone safe and again we ask you to exercise extreme care in the bus zones when children arrive and leave school.

Burnie Principal
