Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families, we hope you’re keeping warm and well.

Prep students have been enjoying creating sounds stories this fortnight. A sound story involves students using a range of instruments to make the soundtrack to a story that is narrated by the teacher. It’s a lot of noise and a lot of fun! Students used a range of different instruments, including drums, maracas, guiros, cymbals, claves, and rain sticks.

Grade 1 and 2 students have finished their shadow puppet assessment, and this fortnight they have been exploring some other types of puppets. Students used stick puppets to work in groups to tell the Australian First Nation’s story of Bunjil and Wah. As well as extending their skill in puppeteering, students practiced using character voices and considering the audience when performing. Puppets are great fun to make and use at home too!

Grade 3 and 4 student’s improvisation unit has seen students creating some weird and wonderful characters and scenes together. Improvised drama requires students to think creatively and collaboratively, as is a fantastic way of developing acting and narrative drama skills. It’s also a lot of fun, and students have had lots of laughs in their learning this fortnight!

Grade 5 and 6 are very engaged in their film making unit. Students have now had an opportunity to film their stories, making sure they used the story creation and camera use techniques they learned through the first half of the unit. They will now be given time to edit their films before sharing them with their classmates at the end of the term. We have been very impressed with our grade 5 and 6 performing artist’s hard work, creativity and collaboration in this project!
