Connect: Year 2

Thank you to all of our wonderful Grade 2 families who attended or Maths Open Afternoon. It was great to see you all sharing in the joy of Maths and developing a deeper understanding of vision for Maths at Skye PS. You should have received a blue booklet that outlined all of the games taught for the afternoon. If you did not get this, or it has been misplaced, click below for a digital copy!

Reminders

  • SWIMMING: We have swimming NEXT week. Please refer to note sent home with Grade 2 Swimming Information (attached below as well)
  • Please send in your child's reading satchel everyday. We go to Library on Thursday so please ensure their satchel and/or library bag is packed or they will not be able to borrow for home.
  • Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.
  • Please be mindful that mornings are a time filled with lesson prepping, staff collaboration and preparation for the day. We are always happy to schedule meetings with parents and guardians on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, alternatively feel free to email us with any questions, comments or concerns.

Upcoming Learning

In Literacy, we will be reviewing taught sounds from Term 1 and 2 as revision enables students to consolidate and develop deeper understandings. We will continue to work on narratives and then will be moving into an Olympics Unit, focusing on letter writing.

In Maths, we will be focusing on making stronger connections between the strands of Maths. Students will continue working on their fluency and problem solving through games and open-ended tasks. Like in Literacy, we will be exploring the Maths involved in the Olympic Games! Don't forget to check out some fun, maths games in the Maths Open Afternoon booklet (attached above) and while you are at it, check out some of the other cool games on the Love Maths website.

In Wellbeing, we have been working on developing our Ready to Learn Plans. The students are doing a great job at using their Ready to Learn Scales and this is the next step where we will work with the Grade 2 cohort to consider what makes them frustrated, how they react and what their body feels like before selecting three ways (either an energiser or a calmer) to move towards being 'Ready to Learn.'
