Learning Community 3

5/6 Glenys Howard and Levi Hudson

These are some examples of the amazing work our students completed during assessment week. Everyone completed a project, about a topic of their own choice. Students chose a selection of tasks from five different learning levels including knowledge, comprehension, synthesis, analysis and application. There was a huge list of items to choose from and we were able to watch some plays and performances as well. At the end of the week students assessed each other's work and gave each other feedback.  We concluded with a "Show and Shine" where students from all four classes got to see each other's work. It was a great way to end the week.

We were lucky enough to participate in a First Aid class last week where we learnt about CPR. Our instructor took us through the process of assessing a situation and calling for help as well as administering compressions. Everyone recieved a certificate and certainly learnt a lot!

We work continues on non-fiction texts in our reading and writing lessons, especially procedural texts. We have been proctising reading and writing instructions in a variety of ways. Some titles from recently completed stories are:

"How to brush your Croc's Teeth"

"How to wash a T-Rex"

"How to sneak your dog into school"

"How to teach a fish to play basketball"

"How to teach a monkey to play footy"

We have had a lot of fun writing and reading these stories.

Maths work this week has centred around finacial maths including percentages and creating a budget. Last week we calculated area and perimeter of rectangles, triangles and some of us worked on circles!
