From The Principal

Ms Noelene Hussey

Dear Families,

This week we have been celebrating  Reconciliation Week . The 2024 theme is, Now More Than Ever.  It is a reminder to all of us that the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people must continue.

Now more than ever, the business of reconciliation must be tackled. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

The dates for National Reconciliation Week remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Our children have been reading First Nation texts in their English classes. Their responses will be shared at our Assembly tomorrow.

Our school will celebrate NAIDOC week in July, next term.

Year 6 Camp

Our Year 6 children had a wonderful experience at camp. They enjoyed the outdoor activities such as the flying fox, big swing, and mud run. They thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with their friends enjoying one another's company. School Camps provide our children with the opportunity to learn in a new and engaging environment. At Camp Rumbug they were exposed to a range of experiences that they would never encounter in their classroom.  The experience of spending a few days with their friends, away from their usual routine and support network, provided them with the opportunity to successfully collaborate with one another.

School camps take a lot of time to organise so I would like to thank the staff who attended and ensured our children were well cared for at all times; Monique McIntyre, Rylee Connell, Alison Brochert-Krohn, Katie Pollard, Justin Cleur, Cath Woodhouse, Jade Salpietro, Tom Cardillo, Leanne Miller and Renae Caruso.

Feast of the Sacred Heart

Next Friday, June 7, we celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart. We celebrate Jesus’ love and compassion for all of us. The purpose of this feast day is to focus our hearts on receiving and returning His love with gratitude. Our children will be attending mass at 9.30am.

Positive Behaviour For Learning - PBL

Our focus has been showing respect to others. Next week our focus changes to being responsible. Our teaching point is being responsible and accepting the consequences for our actions and words, both positive and negative.

It is important our children learn to be responsible as it is the cornerstone of their character development. As they develop their capacity to be responsible, our children are learning to be honest and accountable. When they learn to take responsibility for their actions, they develop a strong sense of self worth and moral integrity.  Our focus over the coming weeks will help our children to be more adept at problem solving and decision making. We hope they learn to be more aware of the consequences of their actions and words and make positive choices when interacting with friends, staff and hopefully with you at home.
