The Next Fortnight of Learning
Literacy
This term, we are exploring The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan, comparing the picture storybook with its animated film adaptation. Students will investigate how characters, themes, mood and messages are conveyed through written language, illustrations, sound and visual techniques. Through thoughtful discussions and written responses, we will consider the similarities and differences between the two versions and how each helps us understand the story’s deeper meaning.
Mathematics
Over the next fortnight, we will be focusing on Operations, with an emphasis on solving worded problems, developing efficient mental computation strategies and applying a range of problem-solving attack strategies. Students will practise identifying important information, selecting appropriate operations and explaining their mathematical thinking. We will also be exploring Cartesian planes, learning how to plot and locate points using coordinates and interpret positions on a grid.
Graduation and Big Day Out
Week 11 will be a memorable one for our amazing Grade 6 students. It’s their last week at Skye Primary School , and what a week it will be! Monday is our Big Day Out at Gumbya World. Tuesday is their Graduation. Wednesday is their Final Assembly and Friday, their last day. It will be emotional and memorable! Please remember to respond to QKR for The Big Day Out and take in mind the dress code is smart casual for Graduation. I'm sure that everyone will look brilliant!
Division Athletics
Congratulations to our Athletic stars who represented Skye so well last week. Vienna (6th place) and Erisa (3rd place) had great results in the High Jump and Qunici was 20cm off winning the Discus but had to settle for 3rd place. Hudson took them on in the hurdles and Parkes was able to come 2nd and make it through to Regional. Best of luck for next Wednesday Parkes and well done to all of our representatives.
