Over the coming weeks, we will continue exploring Matilda by Roald Dahl, discussing themes of fairness, friendship, courage and standing up for what is right. In writing, students are learning to add more detail to their work and expand their sentences to make their writing more interesting and engaging for readers. They will use their imaginations to create their own stories, developing characters, settings and exciting events.

We will continue to develop our multiplication and division skills, focusing on multiplying and dividing two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers. Students will use MAB blocks and place value charts to build their understanding of how numbers can be broken apart to solve problems.

We will also use think boards to represent our mathematical thinking in different ways, while exploring the connection between multiplication and division to strengthen our problem-solving skills.

Inquiry

Over the coming fortnight, our students will be continuing their learning about soils, rocks and minerals. They will discover the world of geology and the important role geologists play in helping us understand the Earth, its changing landscapes and the natural resources we rely on every day. Next week, students will take part in a fun, hands-on incursion where they will explore the rock cycle, identify rocks and minerals through a range of exciting tests, investigate minerals with some surprising properties and learn about the different components of soil. They will also discover why healthy soil is so important for growing plants, supporting animals and keeping our ecosystems thriving!
