STAGE 3 Class News
Greetings from Stage 3! We are well and truly into our third term, and it is proving to be an exciting one. With a new integrated unit on diversity, our world travel projects, and ramping up preparations for Stage 3’s school musical, there is a lot to be excited about.
Around the World in One Term!
This semester, we are linking our learning across subjects to the theme ‘Diversity’. As such, students have begun creating a project based on a country of their choice. Through this project, students will explore the culture, traditions, and unique characteristics that make their chosen country and its people special. Students have commenced their research, which will be used to make a travel brochure, create a replica of a famous landmark using a 3D printer, and cook a well-known national dish. In Week 10, students will present their work at Stage 3’s Travel Fair. Parents, please note that students will need to prepare some food at home to present at the fair. More information will be provided soon.
Marvellous Mathematicians
As usual, our Stage 3 students have been working consistently hard to hone their mathematical skills and apply their learning in a range of situations. Check out our hardworking students below:
Travelling Through Time - Australian History
In History, students are learning about early Australian history, acknowledging and understanding the history of colonial Australia from 1788 and the impacts of British settlement on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who had lived in Australia for 65,000 years. Students are learning about key events and dates from that era and are developing the ability to create a timeline of events. Check out the beginnings of our class timeline below:
Boy Overboard
In English lessons, students are studying the novel Boy Overboard by Morris Gleitzman. This page-turner follows Jamal, an 11-year-old Afghan boy who loves soccer, as his family flees Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. After their secret underground school is discovered, Jamal, his sister Bibi, and their parents embark on a dangerous refugee journey toward Australia. Through studying this text, students are learning key skills including making connections between texts, the world, and themselves; questioning; making inferences; visualising what they have read; and summarising. This novel also provides students with a unique insight into the experiences some refugees face, while fostering critical thinking skills and promoting empathy.
We look forward to seeing what this term holds. Have a lovely week, from Stage 3!
Best Wishes
