Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is from the 27th – 3rd June, it is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories and cultures and to think about how we can contribute to reconciliation.

27th May marks the 1967 referendum where Australians voted to remove discrimination laws against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 3rd June marks the 1992 Mabo decision, recognising indigenous people’s rights to their land.

National Sorry Day on May 26th remembers the Stolen Generation – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children taken from their families – and honours their healing and justice.

This week focuses on attention on creating a fair and united Australia. It encourages communities and organisation to learn, reflect, and act for reconciliation.

Reconciliation Australia leads this week, working with state groups and many organisations across the country to promote reconciliation through events and activities.

Visit the Reconciliation Australia website to find local events. Learn about indigenous cultures, start conversations with family and friends, and think about how you can build respect in your community.

Reconciliation is more than one week – it requires ongoing community. Every day offers a chance to learn, listen, and support a fairer Australia.

Reconciliation is a shared responsibility. By respecting the past and celebrating indigenous cultures, we can build a united and just Australia. Let’s all play our part – not just this week but every day.

Thank you, the Cultural Team, at Echuca Twin Rivers Primary School.

Auslan

Hello from Hannah 5/6A

In Auslan the junior students have been learning to sign their names and practicing their colours and animal signs.  We have also been learning to sign and sing "Old Macdonald had a Farm".

Preps have enjoyed some active brain breaks!

Students in Years 3-6 have been researching a disability of their choice. They have been learning how people with disabilities can live a full life, and what amazing supports are available.  It has been wonderful to see the dedication our students have shown with their projects.
