Principal's Report

Dear Families and Friends,

We’ve had a wonderful few weeks at Rockhampton North, full of learning, connection, and a few exciting changes around the school! As always, thank you for the continued support you show our staff and students, your involvement helps us create the welcoming, inclusive community we are so proud of. 💙

Healthy Harold Visits Our School! This week, our students have been engaging with Healthy Harold and the Life Education Van, learning about healthy lifestyles, nutrition, emotional wellbeing, and respectful relationships. These sessions have been interactive, fun, and very meaningful. It’s so important our students hear positive messages about making healthy choices and being kind to themselves and others. A big thank you to the staff who’ve supported this visit, it’s been a valuable experience for all.

Important Road Safety and Pick-Up Reminders We’ve noticed some concerning behaviour around school drop-off and pick-up. Please take extra care when turning into the school from the opposite lane and be mindful not to block the traffic. A friendly reminder that students begin packing up at 2:45 pm and leave the classroom when the bell goes. The front loop is a quick pick-up zone; please do not park or wait there for your child to come out. If you're early, consider parking in a designated bay.

Shady Improvements and Soothing Sounds Our junior playground has had a little makeover! The new shade sail over the play area has been installed and not only provides great sun protection, but makes the space look lovely and fresh. We’ve also introduced a new bell system across the school—replacing the loud, jarring tones with music that signals transitions in a calm and sensory-friendly way for our students. It’s already made a difference!

Instructional Leadership in Action We were excited to host our School Improvement Coach for our recent CLC Instructional Leadership Walkthroughs. Together, we visited four classrooms to observe phonics teaching in action. It was inspiring to see the confidence, structure, and student engagement on display. Our staff are working hard behind the scenes on student assessments and report writing, and we’re all looking forward to showcasing learning at our Culminating Events on Wednesday, June 25th.

Waterlily Café – Open for You! Lastly, don’t forget that our Waterlily Café is open each morning, serving toasted sandwiches, delicious cakes, and warm drinks. It’s a beautiful space to relax, catch up with other families, and support our students who are gaining real-world work experience in hospitality. No need to book, just drop in, enjoy, and be part of our school community.

Take care,
