St Kevin's Feast Day 3rd of June
St Kevin's Feast Day 3rd of June

Dear Parents and Carers,

There is lots happening at St Kevin’s!  St Kevin's Feast Day Mass -  WHOLE school

Tuesday, June 39:15 – 10:15am. All welcome!

We have sent our acceptance letters to Preps 2026 and we will have interviews for these families in July and August.

We have our Working Bee this week, and I invite every family to assist for one hour between 2:30pm and 5:30pm.  If you're unable to attend during this time, please let Eva or me know, and we can arrange an alternative time.

We’ll be spreading tanbark around the playground equipment and applying anti-slip tape to certain steps around the school to improve safety.

This week is National Reconciliation Week - We have purchased a two way cross which Vicky Clark painted for us.  She is the person who established the 'FIRE Carrier Program' in schools.  Our staff will be participating in Professional Learning to develop a deeper understanding of the connections between the sacraments and the first people of this nation.

Communication

Uninterrupted Learning for your child will begin at 9am.  We have a structured curriculum that needs to be completed with quite rigorous expectation.

If you have a pressing issue and require a response from a teacher or leader please send an email before 8:30am.

Parents and carers are most welcome to make appointments with teachers or leaders if they would like clarification regarding student work, progress, or any other aspect of their child’s learning.

Please do not enter the Learning Space and expect the teacher/s to speak to you without an appointment during learning time.

Safety Reminder: Morning Drop-Off

To keep our students, families, and staff safe during busy drop-off and pick-up times, please follow these important safety guidelines:

  • Do not double park at any time. Double parking blocks traffic flow and creates dangerous situations.
  • Avoid illegal U-turns near the school. These can cause accidents and put children at risk.
  • Observe all speed limits around the school zone. Slowing down helps protect our students and community.
  • Use designated drop-off and pick-up areas only, and avoid stopping in no-parking zones.
  • Please do not allow children to cross the road unattended or between parked cars.
  • Be patient and courteous to other drivers and families.

School Car Park in the afternoon

  • Parents in the cars are NOT to exit cars in the traffic lane.
  • If you would like to exit, please park your car along the rock wall
  • Students will remain seated until parents approach staff on duty and no students to go on or beyond the yellow line
  • Any parents, carers, grandparents etc  waiting for students will be moved to the left of the deck (near the drinking taps)
  • The ramp will no longer be used as a waiting spot for parents due to crowding and its proximity to cars.
  • Cars are not allowed to reverse in the pick-up area. If you are parked behind another vehicle, please be patient and wait until the car in front leaves before exiting.

By following these rules, we can all help create a safe and orderly environment for everyone.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Cross Country

Thank you to Gianni Montalto for his efforts in organising and preparing the students for the Cross Country. We also appreciate Fiona George and Vikky Orfanos for attending and supervising the event. Thanks to all the staff who stayed at school to support learning. Despite the grey and wet day, we had amazing student attendance, and everyone had a great time. Congratulations to Sonny in Grade 3/4 for his achievements. He came in 11th and qualified for the next division for his age group on the 3rd of June.  We all wish you the very best, Sonny!

Mother’s Day Dinner

Thank you, Suzanne, for organising such a special event!

It was heartwarming to see our mothers relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. We shared food, laughter, stories—and connected in such a special way.

A big thank you to everyone who attended. It’s always one of my favourite events!

Be Kind

Dominique Abbey (Year 3/4A Teacher and Social Media Designer) created the ‘Be kind’ poster and distributed it around the school.   We all have the right to feel safe and be spoken to respectfully in our school and workplace. Thank you, Dominique, for your wonderful efforts in promoting this important message.

Learning Support Officers

Please note that Learning Support Officers are not the designated staff to discuss your child’s progress or daily experiences. This duty is not on their role description.  If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s learning or wellbeing, please contact your child’s class teacher directly to make an appointment.

This process helps ensure clear communication and allows our LSOs to focus on supporting all students effectively.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Winter Uniform

This is a reminder to all families that black school shoes are a compulsory part of our Winter school uniform. Runners are only permitted on sports days.

We kindly ask families to ensure their children are wearing the correct uniform and shoes each day.

AMT Maths Competition

Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) is an organization that runs various math competitions and enrichment programs for students across Australia and internationally. Their contests are designed to challenge and extend students’ mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Some students will have the opportunity to work with our Maths Leader, Mr Con, as part of an extension and challenge program connected to the AMT Maths Competition. This is a great chance for students to deepen their mathematical skills and engage in more advanced problem-solving activities.

We encourage students to take advantage of this exciting opportunity!

Student Reports 2025

At St Kevin’s, as with all Victorian schools, we are required to formally report on each student’s progress and achievement twice a year. However, reporting goes beyond the written report. It’s an ongoing process of sharing how your child/children are progressing in their learning and what they are working on next.

How Do We Report?

● Informally – through teacher feedback in student workbooks, Seesaw Posts, phone calls and conversations with parents.

● Formally - through formal written reports, student/parent/teacher conversations, personalised learning plans and/or PSG meetings.

● Continuously – by sharing real time updates on Seesaw of learning tasks.

● Periodically – through formal updates such as the Semester 1 and Semester 2 reports.

Formal Report

Twice a year, at the end of each semester, families receive a formal written report outlining each student’s achievement and growth across the core curriculum areas. The content of these reports is guided by legislative requirements and includes progression points that show each student’s progress and achievement against age-appropriate expectations in line with the Victorian Curriculum and the Religious Education Curriculum.

What does reporting look like at St Kevin’s?

Digital Semester Report

Your child’s Semester 1, 2025 report will be delivered digitally via the Compass Parent Portal at the end of this term.

Parent/Teacher/Staff Conversations will take place on the 2nd of July beginning at 12:30pm.  Further information will be shared with all families by the end of the week.
