Principal Message

Sydenham Campus Principal Report-Term 2

The new semester has begun today, and we congratulate all students on their completion of semester 1. Reports will be available before the end of term, and we encourage students and families to read through the contents of these reports. Now is a great time to review, reflect and set new goals.

Year 9 and 10 students have completed semester exams. Thank you to Ms Niazi for her leadership in this undertaking and to Ms Cakovska and Mr Singh for their support.

A group of Year 10 students left for camp this morning and we look forward to hearing about this experience. Thank you to Mr Mollaj and Ms Van Orsouw for attending and supporting Ms Niazi.

Year 9 and 10 students have also been completing subject selections for 2026 over the past few weeks. Todd Troung (Class of 2023) shared his Pathways experiences with students and families at the evening.

Thank you to the Pathways Team led by Ms Tsaloukis for their work in advising and supporting students in these important decisions.

The importance of attendance for every student cannot be overstated. In accordance with the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic), schooling is compulsory for children and young people aged from 6 to 17 years unless an exemption has been granted.

Parents/carers must enrol a child of compulsory school age at a registered school and ensure the child attends school at all times when the school is open for instruction. Campus Student Management Teams work very closely with students and families to support all students to be at school every day. One of our campus goals this year is to focus on improving attendance. ‘Tracking student attendance is every teacher’s responsibility.’ Our Team buildings have attendance thermometers and current data to help students stay focussed on their attendance.

Thanks to our Team Leaders for their ongoing support of this goal. Our College attendance officer Maria Mostert also communicates with families and we regularly meet with Benjamin Elisha our Health and Wellbeing Support  Officer from Western Melbourne and Brimbank Melton Areas (South Western Victoria Region) as a wrap around service with access to many external agencies.

Year 7 and 9 NAPLAN 2025 results were released to schools in the last week and families will receive these results next term.

NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum. Students sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The questions assess content linked to the Australian Curriculum: English and Mathematics. Teachers use this information to inform their teaching and planning.

Earlier this term, the College hosted the Keilor/St Albans Network meeting on the Delahey campus. Principals from our neighbouring schools gather on a regular basis to share best practice and relevant information.

We were pleased to have another opportunity to work with principals from Sydenham/Hillside Primary and Mackellar Primary schools and to check in with progress on Year 6 transition

We also continue to engage with Parkwood Green and Taylors Primary schools and look forward to welcoming all grade 6 students to Copperfield Sydenham campus as the year progresses.

We had a very successful Pasifika Family Evening which showcased the wonderful talents of our students across the college.

Students were very proud to highlight their culture, and the music and dance items were extremely well received.

Thank you to Fantastic Tuitama one of our Community Liaison Leaders for his work in putting the evening together.

Copperfield’s Got Talent- a wonderful Semester 1 Music Concert revealed some new and emerging talents from the Sydenham campus.

Thank you to Ms Van Orsouw and Mr Concepcion for their efforts in nurturing the talents of our students.
