Art-Beat
Considering it has only been a few weeks (and some short ones at that), we have so much to share.
Our concert band did an absolutely fantastic job with the Anzac service at school, and a good chunk of our band members also joined the Mareeba State High School band for the town service. Great job to everyone involved for contributing to community spirit, with a special thanks to Ms Braes for all the hard work that goes into conducting the band.
Visual Arts in Practice gets a special mention after I got a sneak preview of the artwork they are planning to etch into giant metal leaves and install within the school, with each leaf contributing something of the broad and intricate history of Mareeba. Can’t wait to share more of this project as it blossoms!
The French Film Festival in Cairns was a bit of a hit from what I hear via the staff and students that went along, with The Count of Monte-Cristo being an absolute standout; a must watch for any film enthusiasts! Check out the great photo snapped by Mrs Surdu when she happened to bump into some of our community (student Marc-Antoine with mum and grandma, Francoise Nozaic [former French teacher at St Stephens] and Mrs Surdu).
Musical preparations are travelling tremendously, with students and staff both ramping up the excitement as more and more elements start to come together. In conjunction with the lighting upgrade in the HSC, we had our first official photo shoot with some of our costumed leads, and an intensive camp last weekend, where students were thrown deep into the theatre lifestyle.

Coming up soon, we have the Queensland Regional Ensemble Program (hosted by CQ University) at the end of the month, with 6 of our talented musicians heading along to get the rock star experience, and receive some incredible tuition (and performances) from industry experts from the university and the army’s 1RAR band! Some of the teachers were also excited enough about this program that they are choosing to go along and join in the fun.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the arts in some way, whether by contribution, encouragement, or even just enjoyment. Cultural development is such an important factor for a healthy community, and it is so heart-warming to see everything that students get involved with.
