Great Wheelbarrow Race

St Stephen’s Shine in the 2025 Great Wheelbarrow Race
St Stephen’s Catholic College had a phenomenal showing at the 2025 Great Wheelbarrow Race, proudly nominating two dedicated student teams to take on the iconic 140 km challenge from Mareeba to Chillagoe.
Our Saints Junior Team, competing for the very first time, included: Harper Brunjes, Charlotte Agnew, King Dang, Jonty Stevens, Jasmin Sayed, Luca Roulstone, Ryan Harrison, Janre Johannes, Brylee Cummings, and Eli Smith.
These athletes had a remarkable debut, showing grit, determination, and incredible teamwork. Over the three-day event, they improved their time and race efficiency each day to secure 3rd place in the Schools Division and 7th place overall with a total time of 8 hours and 8 minutes! In an exciting finish, the team jumped from 9th to 7th place on the final day, capping off an incredible first-time effort.
Our Saints Senior Team, returning for their second year, included:Maddy Radcliffe, Cody Misner, Joel Hatfield Hayden, Amelia Sciani, Harley Cek, Henry Brammer, Tyson Metzger, Damon Leeds, Dom Serfini and Summer Johnston.
Building on their experience from last year, this team took their performance to the next level. With refined teamwork and relentless drive, the team after day 1 claimed the ‘Golden Wheelbarrow’ and held onto it for the following 2 days. This motivated them more, leading them to claim 1st place in the Schools Division and achieved the ultimate prize — 1st Overall in the entire race! Finishing with an impressive time of 7 hours and 3 minutes, shaving a remarkable 20 minutes off their previous years’ time.
These achievements would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our amazing staff support crew, who volunteered their time to encourage and support our students. Their dedication behind the scenes made all the difference.

Congratulations to all students and staff involved — your determination, school spirit, and teamwork have made the entire St Stephen’s community incredibly proud!
