Last week, the Year 9s attended the Southern Grampians Skills and Careers Expo. This formed the first part of their journey to explore possible future careers. Highlights from the Expo included a relatively large spray drone, simulated tree harvesting, welding and Gen Health’s careers in allied health.
As a follow-up from the Expo, while the information was still fresh in the students minds, Year 9s completed a careers session with Mrs Helen Reiher. They have started putting together their career profile using the website myfuture.edu.au. Year 9 parents, I suggest that your ask your child what possible careers came up for their 'My Future' profile.
Year 7 and 8 students are into exam revision this week, and I hope they have all planned for their revision time in the lead up to the exam week starting Tuesday, 10 June. A reminder that effective exam revision involves a combination of techniques. Creating a revision schedule, using active recall strategies such as flashcards and practice questions, and incorporating spaced repetition/practice to reinforce learning. Prioritising key topics, minimising distractions, and taking regular breaks are all crucial for efficient and effective revision.
I hope the Year 8s are fine-tuning their exam revision strategies based on last year's experiences. For the Year 7s, we are in the middle of explicitly teaching them effective revision strategies and hope that they can use these to learn from their first exam experiences.
