Restorative Practices

During our 2026 Prep enrolment interviews this week, one message is coming through clearly. St Mary’s is known for being a welcoming, respectful and supportive school. This feedback is heartening and speaks to the work we’ve been doing with Restorative Practices.

Restorative Practices shape the way we build relationships and handle challenges. In classrooms, you’ll often see learners gathering in circles to check in, share how they’re feeling or reflect on their learning. These simple moments build trust, connection and a sense of belonging.

When something goes wrong, we use Past, Present, Future conversations to support learners in thinking about what happened, how others were affected and what steps are needed to repair the harm. We also use affective language to help learners name their feelings and understand the impact of their behaviour on others. It is a thoughtful and respectful approach that helps students grow and take ownership of their actions.

These practices are embedded in our school values and graduate outcomes. They are part of what makes our culture strong, and why new families feel a deep sense of care and connection when they come to St Mary’s.
