Learning and Teaching

We’ve recently been conducting assessments across the school and are already seeing some encouraging growth in our learner data. These early results are a strong testament to the impact of the new initiative 'Magnify' introduced this year across all Sandhurst schools.

At our end of term assembly, we will celebrate learners who have made exceptional personal growth this Semester.

Year 1

Over the past few weeks, students have explored various measurement concepts. They've engaged in activities involving length, using terms like shorter and longer,’ assessed the mass of objects to determine if they are heavier, lighter, or the same and evaluated the capacity of containers to understand whether they hold more or less. This hands on unit has been both enjoyable and educational for the learners.

Year 5

Term 2 has been a busy one in Year 5, with Swimming happening in week 1. Learners enjoyed the practising their swimming skills and learning essential water safety and survival skills.

The HUB Leadership Day was also a highlight, with St Mary’s hosting other schools form the Diocese to celebrate Catholic Education, diversity and inclusion. James McQuillan, a quadriplegic Paralympian shared his inspiring story with the learners before an afternoon of shared activities including dance and wheelchair basketball.

Our next big event coming up is our Year 5 camp, with learners eagerly looking forward to exploring Sovereign Hill and finding the answers to their “big questions.” Our camp supports our learning in Inquiry, where we are investigating the significant historical events that have shaped our nation and the people that live here. We look forward to learning more about the Goldrush and the immigrants that came to Australia, helping to shape our nation.
