Catholic Identity

150 years!

Please join us on Sunday at 10.30am in the Brigidine Centre as we unite to celebrate an incredible milestone of 150 years of St Mary’s Parish.

All learners present at the Mass will be called to the space in front of the Altar to sing, ‘Living in Hope’ for the gathered community following Holy Communion. We are grateful to Fr Novie for the opportunity to share our talents and to lead all those gathered in song.

Reconciliation Week: 27th May – 3rd June

‘Bridging Now to Next’ is the theme for National Reconciliation Week, reflecting the ongoing connection between the past, present and the future. We begin this important week celebrating National Sorry Day on Monday, also known as National Day of Healing.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) started as the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation in 1993. At St Mary’s, every morning in every classroom next week, our prayer will focus on the significance and importance of this week. Together we will pray and explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Laudato Si

What a difference a week can make to our environment, our world and our play spaces!

Congratulations to everyone for your contributions. Let’s keep the momentum going for the remainder of the term! Whose classroom will be able to meet this challenge?

Godly Play / Sacred Stories

Godly Play is a Montessori method of telling Bible stories, developed by Jerome Berryman, using parables, sacred stories and liturgical lessons about religious traditions using tactile natural materials.

Story is a key part of our Catholic Tradition. Stories help children, as well as adults to explore key issues around the meaning and purpose of life and death.

This week Year 1 classes have all engaged in the story of ‘The coming of the Holy Spirit’ linking with their Pentecost unit in Religious Education lessons.

After listening to the story and carefully viewing the retell of the scripture story, together we wondered about how the disciples may have felt; how Peter felt as he approached the crowd outside and considered times when we may have felt like one of the characters in the story.
