Kindergarten and Stage 1
Stage 1
Mathematics
In Stage 1 we have been developing our understanding of subtraction and different strategies we can use.
In our warm ups we have been counting forwards and backwards by 5s from a given number.
English
Stage 1 has been focusing on writing Narratives and writing interesting openers. We brainstormed and recorded some words to start our writng.
Visual Arts
Mrs Barnes works with the Stage 1 students to create some beautiful artworks. These artworks are linked to our English units.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten has been learning about narratives (stories). They now understand that narratives follow a structure and all have a beginning, a middle and an end. We have been looking closely at the text "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" written by Michael Rosen.
This book is a fantastic text to understand the foundations of narrative texts and allows the children to get involved in the text through the use of repetition and engaging language. After looking closely at the text, Kindergarten has then been jointly writing their own narrative text that closely imitates the "We're Going On a Bear Hunt" text. We decided in Kindergarten that we would go on a Principal Hunt!
Kindergarten first had to decide the places around the school where we might find our Prinicpal Mrs Long. Then they had to use the structure provided in the stimulus text to firstly draw and then write a description of the location. Children enjoyed this process very much and were able to work productively in groups, building their collaborative learning skills. Here is the end result of "We're Going on a Principal Hunt" written by our Kindergarten students.
